Imagine if every pornsite/non pornsite spammed every email they could get their hands on. Or everyone sent bots running through ICQ.

(a) the emails wouldn't be effective as everyones email box would be flooded
(b) the net would come to a standstill

Major paysites have had temporary blocks on them and even sued thanks to 3rd parties spamming their programs.

Aren't there some US states that have laws against unsolicited emails?

Best advice is not to "Spam".

Frog: how did you get these emails? Its got to be slighty different surely sending 1000 emails to 1000 people interested in porn, thats what the email sponsors do. Thing is, you dont wantto be kicked off your program.

Best thing would be to contact the sponsor you are using, persuade them that these 1000 people will not mind getting their link in their mail, and that it could generate a good number of sales for _them_.

It also comes down to terms and conditions. If you read the terms and conditions of your internet provider you will find the section of their terms reguarding "spam" or "UCE".

By sending UCE you can get your internet access cut off, get the sponsors bandwidth blocked, etc. which can create possible lawsuits.

Now this is different. If you have a newsletter/mailing list that you provide on your site for surfers to join and you give them a quick and easy way to remove themselves from the list you can place advertisements in the emails that go to the subscribers of the newsletter. You must check and get approval from the sponsor so they know that you have a mailing list and that you are not sending UCE. This is still a grey area. People can forget they signed up for the newsletter and complain which can still cause problems.

Safest way to avoid any problems with email advertising is to avoid it. If you are going to advertise with emails, you should learn how to do it properly. The spams I get sent to admin@every domain I own is getting old. Not to mention all of my email addresses that are harvested from various places and spammed to no end. And ICQ spam I won't even get started on that.

Stay with other ways of generating traffic to sponsors and you will have less worries.

Frog if I were you... I'd be very careful about Spam. The host I do business with, as most do these days, take a hard look at anything that even looks like it could be spam. I've heard of sites being pulled for spam!!!

Becareful with spam. Some people are very adamently opposed to spam and if you happen upon one of them, they will do everything they can possibly do to shut you down. If enough of them complain, 3, your host can shut down your website. Best check your terms of service agreement with your host. Some of them will then even try to charge you a "fee" to allow you to run your website again.

I don't know what it is but people on the internet go to great lengths to get you shut down when they get spam, when they are at home and get a letter via snail mail that they don't want they just throw it away or if they get a phone call from a telemarketer, they just hang up. But email is a whole different story. Prepare to be strung up by your toenails.

But then with all the virus's coming over email lately who can blame them?
