i would like to say something real short which isn't normally me ;-)

You are very right in that many people immigrate here strictly for thier gain and not the countrys as a whole.

i live in washington state and recently went to visit a friend in wenatchee its know for its apples and for its illegal mexican aliens that pick them. i pull into town an its late so i figure better grab a bite to eat before i get to my friends house. so i stop at wendys and order some grub as this lady asks me directions to such and such a street. she is mexican but i care not as i am not a racist but after she askes her question in perfect english she turns to her klittle boy and starts talking to him in spanish. WTF i know we don't have an "offical" language but this is bullshit. it gets worse the next day me my friend and his little munchkins go to the park where there is a fucking huge ass mexican thingy going on like fricking 200 mexicans cooking singing and all this shit which is cool but they ain't speaking english, and i don't see one white guy there. you figure out of 200 mexicans they would have one white friend but no. so this makes me think to they want to come to the US to be part of the US or becasue they can make 11 dollars an hour and send all the money home? thats not pride in the US to make money here living in a strictly mexican enviroment language/culture/etc.. that triing to start a new mexico in america. well heres the deal if i goto almost any country in the world and refuse to speak thier language in public and refuse and goto thier parks and try to spread my culture in thier country they would be pissed i would be lucky to not get killed in most.

i do not think that any ethnic group should just abbandon their culture though i just think thats whta you have a home for. if you wanna speak spanish in your house i give a fuck but have the respect to speak english around us we are the ones that made this country what it is and has been. if you want to take over a park then buy a shit load or property with your money and build your own private park instead of sending your money home. i shouldn't have to fight for jobs and space and othe things that my parents and thier parents died and shit for becaseu you wanna make some money.

The problem is that the older mexican people that come to the US can't speak English very well. They only learned Spanish so it's easier for them to speak Spanish in their family and amongst them. Their children (if born in the US), if they are going to school and play with other 'American' children, will have the advantage to be able to speak both languages.
Would YOU if you went to France because there you have the chance to earn 5 times more than in your country speak French if you meet friends that also speak English in a restaurant in France or wherever?
You said the woman spoke to you in perfect English. This is actually a good sign but you need to remember Spanish is their mother tongue and they prefer to talk Spanish to their family.
