Hi,

I'm going to convert several video tapes into mpeg/realplayer/windows media format, what is the best and easiest card to use for this??

Also, what kind of videoformat would you choose? Realmedia, mpegs or wmf?

tnx!

I don't know about how to do that but if you only use one format it should be mpeg

The Pinnacle DV500 is pretty good. It has some problems, but it's pretty good.

As for format, you'll want to use ASF - specifically, the new non-secured MPEG4 codec. Don't use DiVX- there's no point any more now that MS has released this MPEG4 codec (DivX is/was a hacked ASF codec, hacked to remove the security)

Good luck, and remember - if you're going to have sound, most of the time porn tape sound is complete crap, so pull the captures sound track, remove the noise and normalize it. Also, don't bother with stereo sound.

Cheers,

Dude you can get very detailed help from
http://www.vcdhelp.com/

RealPlayer is great for Cartoons (like every Southpark episode is in RealMedia)
ASF's sound sucks, try both and see! ASF's sound is very thin.
Divx is very popular, but its not good under 600Kb/sec bitrates (~6Mb Per minute)

You can use a Graphic Card, that have Video IN (some Asus, Creative cards have it)
or use your current TV card.

with my AMD Athlon 1.0 Ghz CPU, I able to capute Divx, ASF in realtime (700-800 Mhz+ Cpu will help you for that)

For Divx Capture (realtime) use Virtualdub, you can read all articles about capturing/editing at www.vcdhelp.com (http://www.vcdhelp.com)

ASF's sound is thin is it? DivX is better? Well, that's interesting considering that ASF and DivX use the same underlying codec, which is MPEG4. Perhaps you could explain more?

Also, anyone advising that you capture to a compressed format doesn't know wtf they are talking about.
