Is it alright for the first time being to set-up UCJ script on virtual domain?

virtual domain or a virtual host?
I can imagine if you are paying that much moola for a script you probably can set it up on your next-door neighbours lawn if you want to

Moola
The point is i am thinking of setting it up non-dedicated, like on shared hosting. Is it going to handle it for the time being?

mukoh,

Try and save yourself some aggravation and stress and put it on a dedicated if you can afford it.

I learnt the hard way by having a script site on a semi and went down for a few hours a couple days in a row.

Sure you can run UCJ4 on virtual and should not have any problems so long as your with the right host. I know this from experience and know alot of people running it on virtual hosting. Just so long as the host dosen't over load the machines and leaves room for growth you can eaisly run it for a long time to come with good success.

I think you were with the wrong host and they couldn't handle the proccessing that the script requires.

Hope you guys had a good Easter.. http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I just don't want the hassle of dedicated hosting right now. I just want to start up to 25K unique a day on virtual then switch to dedicated when it can pay for itself.

I run 3 sites with UCJ on virtual hosting, all around 25k, as long as you go with a good host you will be fine.

What happens when some guy comes on the server with a perl script and eats up all the resources and crashes the server? Sure, when you find out you'll kick him off but by then its too late, the traffic has gone to shit.

The only way to protect yourself against that is to get your own machine.

Just my oppinion...

Yes, you can run a UCJ script on a virtual account.
The problem is that most hosts configure their servers for serving web sites, not redirection.
If you decide to go with virtual hosting, make sure you ask your host to turn off "keep-alive" or set it to a low number otherwise you'll crash the server.

That shouldn't happen if the server is setup correctly to limit the amount of resources each user can use.

Setting up a UCJ script on a virtual account is fine as long as your host has everything configured properly. Getting a dedicated is always better (as long as again it is configured for a UCJ script). If you look around http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif you'll find a good dedicated server for your UCJ script for an affordable price.

I can totally see where dedicated is better. For now i want to start it on virtual hosts that i have other sites spread among. As long as it pays for itself its fine. I just want to get traffic, cycle traffic and exit it to sites that i want to build bookmarkers and stable traffic on.

I don't know who _EVER_ came up with this?

Plain bullshit. Recompile apache with the right options man!

Having a dedicated is ofcourse good too, but not cheap dedicateds, because cheap dedicateds aren't managed properly so you've DoS-able nameds, probably run WuFTP (if you want to be hacked that's the way to go) and stuff like that...

Kong: we ask what kind of script ppl use before we put them anywhere and how much traffic they have, we also keep a close monitor to servers to which new clients are added. I believe all good virtual hosts, like ours, but also like vector do this.
