you mean which compiler? you dont need to compile perl scripts. now for C just compile it on a linux machine with gcc installed.
and you write every code in a normal text file?
there is no resources sites about that?

Rod.. just go to http://www.google.com and search for "Learn C" or "C or Perl tutorials"
Its that easy..

yup. perl scripts are written in text. but you need to use windows word pad because windows notepad cant handle unix text files.
Twintone: I did, but I haven't really found something interesting...
All the sites I went doesn't explain anything....and there were no message boards...to post questions http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/frown.gif

Check out http://informit.com they got TONs of free books on all things related to IT, including lots of books on programming in C and perl, check out their free library.
Wonderful thing is that it's entirely free!!

Rod, just go to a bookstore, and buy a book on one of the two. I personally suggest perl, c is a very difficult language to teach yourself.
Buddy,
Learn Perl first. Its a real CGI programming (saying scripting is wrong, its enough complex and able to write real programs, also have a compiler http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )
I can help you, if you ask.
When you learn all about Perl, you can learn others. Like C or C++. But you need lots of time and lots of hair in your head (you'll strip lots of.. http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )
if you want C for coding a nice CJ script, forget it.

Rod, get a book!
perhaps O Reily's learning perl?
As for which one to start with, it totally depends on why you want to learn to program. If you are after making a few scripts for your sites etc, then definitely go with perl. If you want to "learn to program" go with C, but dont expect to be writing solid code overnight.
But definitely definitely get books, dont rely on the net. Its much easier to work from a book, and you can also read when away from the computer (like i said, nothing wrong with reading tech books 24/7 http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).
Thanks for the mass repies http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
I think I'll check out what's up at the library http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks,
Steve

I thought the cgi/perl cookbook was pretty good... something like 12 example scripts...

Rod:
For the very basics, just so you get an idea of what you're getting into, visit http://www.webmonkey.com
after that, go to my personal fave http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.codehound.com
For Perl, do a search on amazon for 'The Perl cookbook'
I cannot recommend a C book, I cannot do a line of c http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
and definitively start with Perl, it is not a simple language, but it's a lot better to learn.
also, so you don't have to upload pages to your server everytime you do anything, go to http://www.nusphere.com and check their products, you can get apache, perl, php and mysql in your windoze puter with ease, it sure helps http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

o'reily's perl book is a good one. I bought it and it's pretty readable. But regardless, it will take you time just to learn how to write guestbooks and form mail. If you're trying to write your own scripts like cj pro or something like that, it will take you months to a year.
hey rod, long time no talk. you might want to check out this page. really shows you how the C code functions, gives you a better understanding...

Also if you're looking for an easier alternative to perl, try learning PHP, it's a tad bit easier.

I also think PHP is better and easier to learn than Perl..
For me is just like ASP but cross-platform compatible =)
