I'm looking to buy a digital camera, preferably with an optical viewfinder rather than an LCD screen. Can anyone recommend a nice model?

Thanks for the offer Snow, I'd rather buy new and get a guarantee (and new is pretty cheap in Asia).

Anyone else any experience of digital cameras?

I own 2 kodaks and they are great with the lighting factor which to me is a strong point to look for. I take lot's of pics in clubs where you have pretty dim lighting and digital cameras require more light then standard point and click. I say look at the specs and buy somthing that will match up to your area of use.

Also look at memory sizes and cost along with expansions like zoom and wide lens components. One great feature in my DC220 is that it can date/time stamp also watermark my images automatically and saves me from doing extra work.

And last but not least look at power consumption some cameras will suck the juice from your batteries very quick. No matter how you go use rechargable batteries and you will save alot of money.

I can recommend the Kodak DC290. I've taken all the photos at http://www.justinesbedroom.com with the Kodak. You can check out the samples in the free area to see the quality of the camera. If you want to know anything more about the camera, just post a message and I will help if I can.

I use the Kodak 265 which is an excellent camera although it can
be a little buggy from time-2-time it has exceptional output.
I've seen the 265 on Ebay for less than $150.00 US.
The 265 and the 290 are discontinued models from Kodak if you
want to see the new line (http://www.kodak.com/US/en/digital/cameras/DCSGateway.jhtml) of Kodaks you'll find you
will not be disappointed in their regular, or high-end cameras.

Hi Kree,

For lighting I use three halogen's - 2 x 500w a 300w and cover them with blue gels. I also use the flash on the camera to help give the photos a slightly over exposed effect. I try to take the photos near a window as well, as a bit of natural light really helps.

I've tried using diffusors to soften the light, but they didn't really make much difference and were just too big and bulky to move around. The site really is a genuine amateur site, Justine is my wife, and we take all the photos in our home, so halogen's are quick and easy to set up and move around.

I hope this helps.

Digital Cams, the never ending story!
Which camera is the best?
There are only 2 cams named professional and both with Kodak Chip: Nikon F5 and Canon EOS 1. Uses all lenses of the analog model, different flash cards, accu block connection and whatever you need for a professional shooting. 50% of the Penthouse shoots are made with one of them! Price for the body around $9,000!
Like to spend around $3,000:
Canon EOS D 30 named professional but is
semi-professional plus. Good cam for studio shoots, uses all analog lenses and has alot features, the Chip is updated!
Fuji S1 pro works fine, only for outdoor, not for the studio cause not under ISO 320, very bad!
Like to spend around $2,000:
Olympus E-10 but f/11 is all!
Important:
Buy a cam for multi cards, including IBM micro drive!
External flash port for studio flash machines!
Accu power block connection, with battery you get no shooting complete.

Thanks for all the info people, it is much appreciated.

Darrell, great pics and a great looking site man.

I checked out a lot of cameras and ended up buying a Pentax EI2000, mainly because I prefer an SLR camera, but also because it sits comfortably in my hand.

Thanks again all
