I was planning on adding CE as a exit sponsor with their FREE trials.
First I decided to check out their members area so I tried to signup for a free 5 day trial option (please note that is not cheating since I planned to cancel before it would reccur and you are only getting credit for confirmed subscribers)

**You are joining us for a 5-Day FREE Trial Membership. TO AVOID BEING CHARGED A MONTHLY FEE, SIMPLY CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP BEFORE TRIAL PERIOD ENDS. If you remain a member beyond the Trial period, your membership will renew at $34.95/month, or the then applicable rate, until cancelled.

But my card was not approved by them, thought it was a bit weird but did not think more about that.
Not untill today when I got a call from PBS / MasterCard Denmark that asked me if it was true that I tried to buy something from a website for the price of $34.95. i said NO I was trying to signup for a FREE trial that would after 5 days renew at $34.95 if not cancelled.
I thought it was a bit weird they where calling me for a credit card decline but the reason they called was because they where doing some "fraud investigation on that company and they did not allow them to do any billing on danish MasterCards / EuroCards"
please note that this is only in Denmark from what I could understand, not sure if it also where in the rest of Europe.
The funny thing is that.
1. why did they try and bill my card for a FREE trial period?
2. when mastercard calls 1 of their customers about their declined billing attemp because they have blocked the company from billing danish MasterCards this is for SURE not the first time it happends. when will other parts of the world follow?
3. how can it be that only something like 50%-80% reccur from the free trial when you are billed for 1 month the min. you signup for a free trial?

Hmm. 50-80% is a bit high. I only have 25-60% cancel ratio.

But it sounds weird though.

Due;

There is nothing unusual in this. The way credit cards work is:

When someone joins on a free trial the site goes out for a pre-authorization, which means they find out whether the card holder has the membership price (in this case $34.95) available on their credit card, it
reserves the $34.95 for the site but does not charge it to their credit card..

After the trial period is over the site does a 'settlement' if they have not cancelled and
closes the $34.95 pre-authorization.

This is true for anything from adult sites, to car rentals to hotels etc.

You should be happy when your credit card company calls you because it means they're doing their job. I have many US credit cards, and whenever I try to use them - especially from Cahse bank or First USA Bank - I either have to actually speak with them from the store I'm purchasing something from or within a couple days after I get a call from their customer service asking if I was the one who made the purchase.

Yeah sounds right to me. They almost pre-approve you ahead of time.

huh. they go in and reserve the money on my credit card? then if i cancel they go tell my credit card company that the money should not be billed anyway?
I never heard of that before, neither did my credit card company (not MINE though, the one I use)
I use my CC all the time on the web and seen a lot of weird rejection notes as well (most common one is that I don't have a AVS system on my card http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/confused.gif )
But never was I contacted by them for trying to or doing any transactions where they would like to verify if it was me or not.
But then again it was the first time tried to join a free trial paysite or any paysite so you might be right. probably just my mistake http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif

What a crock of shit, first of all Cyber erotica is the very best adult site on the net, it also has one of the very best webmaster programs.

I know there are a lot of shitty sites and programs out there, but before people open their mouths they should do some home work and research. What jack said is true. CE is not scamming anyone, its just the way credit cards obtain preapproval for charges.
