Lets say I am thinking about buying a website from someone, and I have no idea how much traffic they get, and I don't want to trust what they say. What site will tell you how much traffic a domain name gets every day.
There was a site that ranked sites by traffic, I forget the name, it was something like Alexa or something.

Unless the site uses a free counter (payconter, sextracker, etc.), you won't know how much traffic the site really gets. And even these counters are not as accurate as server log.
Alexa only counts hits from their members. Thus, you'll to multiple that number by a factor. And if that site is not a member of Alexa, it doesn't mean the site is not getting any traffic.
Instead of traffic count, look at link popularity.
