View Full Version : need computer help
since a lot of you guys know a bunch about computers i thought maybe you can help me with something. I got a new motherboard + cpu (KT7A with a thunderbird 1ghz) and a 64mb radeon 3d card. So i get everything set up turn it on and nothing comes on the screen and about 5 seconds later it goes Beep, Beepbeep. (one long two short beeps) So i look up to see what the beepcodes mean and it tells me that its a bad video card. So i get it exchanged at the store and put a new one in. Same thing happens. I also took the 3dcard out and tried booting to see what would happen, but it still does those 3 beeps. Any idea what could be wrong?

Could be because your ram is not in secure. I have had that problem before.
Try the ram first... you should here a click when the cards are properly installed... Also... make sure that your video card is in the right slot, switch slots around and keep trying..
its not a pci slot i have it in an agp slot, but while looking around on various messageboards i have seen that other people have had compatiablility issues with some video cards and the kt7 motherboard. So i shall try a different brand video card. Thanks for all your help though.

It sounds to me like your video card is not properly secured. That happens when it's lose. If you assembled the pc yourself, you might have installed the motherboard wrong. That happens when the cards dont fit in tight. So check if it is all the way in. If that doesnt work, make sure your ram is properly installed and all your other cards are in tight. If you still cant get it to boot, you might have a defective motherboard agp slot. Make sure also that your cpu is in all the way. If none of this works, try to boot your pc with a pci video card, if you have one.. otherwise, get a replacement on your motherboard. Hope this helps

Actually, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what this is, I have a similar setup.
While I couldn't find it anywhere in the manual, I eventually found something online telling me what it is.
You need to have the CPU fan plugged into the little fan power stub thing that's underneat the ATX power block and closest to the RAM slots. That's the one meant for the CPU fan, and if BIOS detects that it's not there, it thinks your CPU fan is dead and won't start up so that the CPU doesn't burn out.
