I sure do fucking hate it when in my refer stats for my pay site I see shit like this:
http://www.platinumpasswords.com/index2.html
You know I use to always go to these sites to and leach but now that I own a pay site I see what kinda damage they can do and the bandwidth they can eat. Oh well life goes on!

Password sites can be your friend, you just need to redirect all the error traffic to a pop up hell.

That would be the 401 error. Try putting this into your .htaccess file.
ErrorDocument 401 http://www.popuphell.com/

I've tried this..but it interferes with the password protection..
Instead of my members being able to enter..they are instead shuttled off to the popuphell.com thing.
I've read the docs at apache.org..not sure why the heck it's doing it..I have the syntax correct and everything..

change the index page of your members area
(changing it also on the members in links and after they pay)
then have old index of members are redirect to popup hell
a little more work but just as effective

The thing to do is make your fake page look like a memebers page.. tease them and then send them to another sponsor or your sign up page and you can get some sign ups and you wont get blacklisted because most people think its the members sections http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

That's nasty wicked cool!
I did it about 1 year ago.
The traffic is really bad tought...they almost quit your site as soon as they visit your site.

Actually the best thing to do is create a special member area for these leaches with much less and lower quality content (no video access ect..) to start.
Then you add some bad links here and there that redirect with ads inside the fake member area similar to a TGP basically.
Keep the bad passes directing to that area and your good to go http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif
It still costs you a bit on the banwidth but will save your real member areas from taking hits and getting leeched to hell in the long run. You also get a chance to cash in with some of these people maybe with join4free or some other free member programs.
There are a few differ programs on the market that do this kind of redirecting by IP or referer, pass , ect.. and go way beyond what a small .htaccess will do.
There is also 1 program im aware of but do not recall the name that will spit fake "200 OK" over and over to flood the password crackers with fake pass entrys.
If you would like to get a custom solution for your member site i can get you a complete solution to steer leeches away from you and over to your competetors http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif

No reason to pay a company a fee every month when you can buy software that will do the same thing for a one time price.

I think http://www.passtrojan.com is the best way to go as it lets you send the users to other places however remember when setting up these types of systems that some users may actually have more then 1 ISP.
Therefore make shure any program you use will track by the IP block or dom the users are from and not ban a legit user for dialing up AOL 5-6 times a day to view your site.
Many options are available but if you have lots of users be shure to use more then just an .htaccess which has its limitations.
I also will school some of you in here on a big secret about these password sites.. Many of them actually buy or have soone else buy memberships on sites that have better security against brute force cracking. Also members who join will in turn trade many of the passes to other sites with these pass site admins http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Why?
Ah Well http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif
That is what makes them $$$ the $30 spent on maybe 2-3 sites a month will make quite a bit more for them. Same for the user who trades his one months paid account for 6 months of other sites http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
I know alot of this area due to the fact i used to be heavy in this community and had friends who run some of the big sites. I know all the secrets however i refuse to say anything further to protect my ass from the watchful eyes of course.
I reccomend you actually get people to attempt brute force cracks n such after implementing any form of security and put it to the test.
Again if you need to now where to get the most crack attempts hit me up i know the center of this activity http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Toker you are right..all that is done automatically all visitors are redirected to fake members area, without them even knowing it will look like they are sitll in yourpaysite.com/members
they will not have to click cancel because the password will work for them
All paying members will be taken to the normal members area.
and you can get a lot of hits and use them as you wish.
Just making 401 error is not good because some people type their password wrong, and they would get the 401 error.
PasswordTrojan 2.0 is coming with easy installation and better user stats.

how is the quality of that kind of traffic?

It depends what you do with it. Some sites convert it great, some send to blind programs. I would say it's the same as tgp. only virtually no bandwidth burned and 100k free traffic http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hey could you post some password sites? I liked the idea of getting the traffic from them :-))
Those password sites have tons of working links/passwords to paysites. No way any of those are going to actually buy a membership to any site after all that high-quality free content.

Hypo, you'd be surprized what 10,000 visitors to your members area can do in one hour. you have to have a SICK server to handle it. right now we are on dual 866 with 1 gig of ram, so we can take all the traffic without turning the passowrd off, we tested it.
Otherwise most of the servers will die if they are linked from a big passwordsite..and usually passwords just spread around cuz they copy from each other.
evil: the biggest password site in the world is http://www.ultrapasswords.com
Passwordtrojan is only 50$/month and it pays for itself many times over. We have version 2 comin before the Vegas Show.
and you can get it for free with our hosting btw.
