I noticed that a webmaster program called exitkiller.com is promoted on AWI.

Why on earth would anyone want to promote such software if it's going to hurt overall revenues on exit consoles?

Do you mean tgp's will kill pay sites one day, or this will kill exits one day?

I just mean in general.

Most people spam referal codes around thinking they will make the "quick" buck when they could keep the program to themselves and make a lot more money in the long term.

Tgps are no killing paysites its the people who want a quick buck who offer live feeds, full movies, tons of oriognal pics, ect on there sites that are doing it.

Look at it this way Candid,

If a surfer buys this exit killer program, that means he or she is hip to exit consoles and wants to "kill" them.

These surfers will not buy anything from you anyways.

Exit killer is saving you bandwidth.

:D

Let's say you open 1 000 exit consoles and sell 5 exitkillers, you can still make money from the rest, 995 later but you made a lot from those 5 who didn't want to see your consoles in the first place.

Something you guys may want to think about is once you get people to install this thing. They could at any time cause their program to start hijacking webpages, web ads, consoles etc.

PG,
Sounds a bit slanderous ....

Exit Killer is software that lives and operates on the user's computer. There is no way for us to control or change the program. Period. It will never do any of the things you suggested, only kill javascript generated pop-ups.

Lets not be naive here - surfers are looking for a product like this. Check out ZD Net Top Downloads:

1 Offline Commander 1.5
2 ZoneAlarm 2.6.362
3 Zero Popup 1.38
4 WinZip 8.1
5 Internet Researcher 1.4
6 Pop-Up Stopper 2.6

Two pop-up killing softwares in the Top 6 Downloads. What does this tell you? Why not make money from the sales?

Priest hit it right on the head:
"If a surfer buys this exit killer program, that means he or she is hip to exit consoles and wants to 'kill' them.

These surfers will not buy anything from you anyways.

Exit killer is saving you bandwidth."

This is not a bogus piece of software, it is a well written, well performing tool that is currently in demand. And remember, software sales will not interfere with paysite signups. Sure, paysite sales may still be your bread & butter, but who can't use a little more income these days?

Doesn't Junkbusters give software away like this for free ?

Candid--I wouldn't worry to hard about the product itself, I worry about the attitude of "sell anything" to the surfer.

It's funny actually. My banner and advertising removal software prevented me from seeing the ads for this software.
:D

I'm not kidding either.

Actually. I thought about it.

Any surfer who is dumb enough to buy a pop-up killer is a surfer I want at my site, and I think I can sell porn to.

Because that surfer will buy porn too when they get a little frustrated instead of searching for it for free :)

Damn, I never agree with Proggod. Until now.

ANY program that has access to the registry or certain other functions on an end users computer can (and I would venture to say always does) write a way into the program to get back to the users computer and make 'updates' to their software.

Maybe they don't use it, but I'll still bet that nearly every one of them has the ability.

So what's the slander in that?

I hate fucking pop-ups. Fuck everyone for using them. =] I signed up and going to promote this product for a few weeks. The funny thing is. They have a "Full page exit console" for you to download. LOL

I dont mind people using popups.. what bothers me is people promoting free popup-killers. Exit popups = cash, a lot of cash. People who are potential buyers (if they werent, theyd know how to turn off javascript) are using these popup killers and the revenue is going down for all of us..

If the surfer feels they need a program like exitkiller to get rid of all the pop ups that they see, then let them buy it.

Majority of sites only pop 1 or 2 exit consoles, so nobody really cares.

But if people feel they are hitting sites that are popping up 1 by 1, another after another, then they should buy that program to make their surfing on the net easier.

I would rather have surfers download a program like exit killer, then turn away from our business totaly because its such a hassle to look at a site.

I wouldn't worry about people getting into your registry (ie. the software maker), with out the proper terms to using their software, if they do that, you can hold them legaly responsible and not only are we talking jail time, but a big ass fine.

but all an exit killing program has to do to "steal" your ads is have the surfers download the "new" version - and have it make the surfers see its own ads instead.

rollin, kimmykim works for one of the largest processors on the web, and perhaps you might want to think about what she is saying twice - because a lot of people that own programs which aren't legal don't care about (or even consider) that they are breaking the law, so they don't worry about repercussions.

i'm not saying exit killer is illegal, but it gives far too much control of the surfers' computers away. in the long run, that could cost us all our living if it replaces banners.
