Add 2-3 subs and 10 speakers for parties and you will understand why you must have a good sound card :)

I'd never put that in a working computer. Imagine how long it will take you to check consistency, or windows chkdsk or defragmenter. And I won't even talk about the situation when some drive in array gets bad blocks, the whole raid will be a nightmare.

I set up 4 scci drives 18.3 gig each (10k rpm) with 3 on raid 5 and hotspare. I get 35 gigs of redundant space and will never lose the data. If I need more storage I can hook up external scci drives on another channel of raid card and ami enterprise 1500 comes with full 4 channels. (but expensive, lol)

The one Sony VAIO 1.5GHz went for $1748 with a $200 mail in rebate which pulled it down to $1548, The other Sony VAIO I have I got for UNDER $1500 WITH the monitor. The laptop I got for $740, and well the gateway? Who cares...... they are always 10 times more than what they shoulda been. LOL

We get all of our pcs now at Circuit City or Office Depot, you hit them on the right day of the month and you can get a $2k pc for well under $1k....... BUT the secret here is to stay just one step under what is HOT and you can practically get the damn things for nothing. LOL I like personally to stay a step behind because by then all the bugs are all out. lol

Thats very true Tam i happened to learn a great way to bargin from a friend you can use when it comes to buying most all electronics. I got a Packard Bell PII 500Mhz kinda old but when i got it $980 was retail and it was one of 2 on display so anyhow i walked out the store with it for $500 but they didnt have a book or a box like i give a shit.. :p

I dont like brand name PCs but if i can get one for 50% below the cost im not going to turn that down. I also look for open items when buying cables or i just tell the guy hey i need 5 cables drop me 10-15% and most always i will get it. If they realy want to make it happen they will open 1 or 2 of the items for me.. :D

Be really nice and get to know the guys at best buy or Comp Warehouse and you get some awsome deals. I have seen their markups on their books and they dont have much bargin when it comes to PCs but accessories they can cut great deals on since markups are much higher.

I get up to 50% off open items and i save a heap of cash specially on my blank CDs which i buy hundreds for promo items in clubs although some stores will rather return to distrubuter then mark down.

For PC's i would go for AMD cause there the best overall processor in my opinion taking value for money into concideration aswell.

For Laptops i think Intel is the way to go cause they have better heat issues then the AMD proccessors which is important for a laptop.

toker........ the laptop I got was their display, they had JUST put the newest one on the shelf and I wanted the one just a step back, so I asked him what he'd take for that one........ he quoted me a $750 price and I made him agree to all the "NEW" warranties and then I told him to box it up....... he was a little shitty because here I go walking in there in my sweats and t-shirt and I SOOOO did not look like the type to even know what that kind of money looked like, and he wanted the pc for himself once he knew the price.............. LMAO

I have become VERY good buddies with all the ones that sell pcs in my area, they see me coming and know what's about to happen. 1st- Dual Mother Boards are more expensive than Brand Name parts.
2nd there's 2 Cpus on his computer..
3rd, his memorry is not 133mhz... not even ddr 800... it,s 2GIGS of Freakin DDR2100!
4th he's got an adaptec 160... mine cost me 500$ a couple years ago, I think it's still high... SCSI didn't drop that much
5th a scsi drive..

The 17" im using now is generic but very good quality and i paid $179 brand spankin new in the box. I prefer to buy component systems since i can use better quality like the shit ram and onboard sound/video most home PCs come with. Its also cheaper to build high end machines from scratch but lower end systems are cheaper in store brand when they have those big rebate sales.

As for those discount stores thats just like like comp warehouse they sell their own generic brand which is mostly refurbished goods they sell at about 2/3 the cost. I usually buy shit ill never use just because i get a good price and i figure maybe one day i will need it.

Just ordered that one yesterday. Only with 1 GB ram though since 2 GB would be overkill (price difference is around $180) a standard $20 AGP graphic card and a Intel Pro100 netcard :) Going to be some serious motherfucker server :D

That's something you can do here in Denmark :D It even includes a 25% sales tax that I can get refunded because I'm registered as a company :p
So the actual price for that computer is $1.352,56 (with 1 GB ram instead of 2 GB but with network card - Intel Pro100 and a $20 graphic card)

They sell A LOT more 256 MB than 1 GB's memory blocks so they can be mass produced more efficient therefor the price drops.
