Hello. Im almost done PHPRefer.. its a script that will display your top referrers and uses mysql :).

Current features are:
-Able to get the referring URL of a site without special html code (ie no referin.cgi?referrer=sitename stuff, it knows the refferer itself).
-Completely configurable through your web browser
-Ban list (ignore referers from sites you dont want logged)
-Logger separate from displayer, so you can put your logger on your 'entrance' page, and display them on main page
-Support for multiple templates (good for having a different template for your runners up)
-Updates in under a second
-No cron needed, script will reset itself whenever you like
-Allows you to set your own titles for referring URLs
-Easy installation
-Program that comes with it to easily create your template files and test them
-Debug your table to see how fast it is being shown (to the billionth of a second)
-Arrange referrers by raw hits, or unique hits
-Allow 'matches' for sites (IE referrer from <A HREF="http://www.google.com/search="free"" TARGET=_blank>http://www.google.com/search="free"</A> and <A HREF="http://www.google.com/search="all" TARGET=_blank>http://www.google.com/search="all</A> free" can be treated the same if you like)
-Return URL can be different from In URL (great for topsites)

See it in work: http://24.65.219.40/work/index2.php http://24.65.219.40/work/maintain.php3

Im still working on more cosmetic changes to things like the maintain page and working on bugs if they appear :D

What do you guys this this is worth? CGIMans version is $300, i was thinking less than $80.
Also, if you guys have ANY suggestions as to how I can improve it, please let me know :)

Thanks!

If your competitors script is going for $300, and you think yours is just as good, then charge the same.

If you think it's better, charge more.

the server that was hosting those pages showing the script in work is now fixed.. (pages wouldnt load before)

copland: i think it does much more than the other script, however people will think that because its in PHP the price should be lower (but the speed and efficeincy is VERY close..)
I dotn want to rip people off, so I was thinking a much lower price. Also, I want to make it a much better script than the others by implementing things that users want to see :)

So please let me know if there is anything you want added on to the script please..

Well would you rather sell 10 copies at $100 or 30 copies at $50 thats how you should look at setting prices. This will also affect sales ratio because the poeple who buy based on price have friends who buy products for their quality and functionality.

So by selling for less you start to sell more and your product can and will at some point begin to sell itself. When it comes to value in a script the only true value is that it does everything the buyer needs. No matter if its php, cgi, or any other.

As long as you have made enuff money to cover your time involved and a fair profit you should be satisfied.

thanks toker :)

youre quite knowledgeable lol :D... that helped me a lot

the server that is currently storing the demo pages will be down in a hour or so but will be back up tomorrow at 11est if anyone wants to look at it..

And please, keep the suggestions coming on how i can improve the script :)

Don't go down that road.

I used to sell monthly subscriptions for $5.95 as I didn't want to make too much of a profit. I also didn't want to exclude people on grounds of financial status.

People still cancelled!

I upped the entry price to $29.95, and sign ups went up, not down!!!

Cancellation rates were pretty constant.

The fact is, if you've got something people want, they'll pay pretty much whatever you decide to charge (within reason).

Also, people think if it's cheap, there's a reason for it, and they assume it must be crap.

I kinda have to disagree here because AOL costs more then i ever paid for my ISP and its total shit. Just my opinion if you think AOL is the greatest well you believe what you want..

I should spend $15 a month more for chat rooms to hit on 50yr old men pretending to be chicks?

Yea right IRC is free and all the werdios you could want to meet worldwide.

I will take IRC (free service) and my local ISP and i get a better value that meets my needs. Same goes for anyting else thats free im a jew at heart (no offence) possibly switched at birth. :p

I could probably give a better example but i hate AOL and i love to express my hate for them as often as i can. ;)

Now forget about what people think most of the guys your targeting buy scripts and live on the advice of others. Because a large % of webmasters are followers and cant get their head out their ass long enuff to think for themselves. I see it everyday many want the cake they want it fed to them and they want you to wipe their mouth afterwards.

Anyway its all about marketing some guys can sell a paperclip for $10 others couldnt give the thing away for free. :D
