Hi
i'm having problems with ICQ, i run it and it stays for a minute or so and then i get this:

Icq has caused an error in MSVCRT.DLL.
Icq will now close.

If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

hell, i tried everything to fix that, but nothing helped :(

anyone has the same problems as me? do you know how to fix that?

i will appreciate your help.

i have had it.., but i had to reinstall icq.

Nrmal reinstall did not work, so after that I deleted icq, and also manually deleted all icq-lines in the register. (wich were left even after the deletion)
and then i reinstalled

that helped..

Go to microsoft.com download the file, and add it to windows/system (but you must have it there already)

Or, do a search on your computer for the file, and copy it over to windows system. If you find out that you have the file in windows/system already, then it safe to assume that your version of icq must need it on there icq program file directory.

I know some programs will use it and add to there own program folders such as dreamweaver, napster, etc, so your have that file in a few different places on your system.

I'm running icq99b and that file isn't there in the icq program directory, so i'm assuming my version of icq is sharing the file in windows/system.

Not sure if the newer icq versions adds it to there own folder or just shares the one in windows/system. Maybe someone who's running a newer version of icq can you let you know if it has it's own version...or even forward it to you with instructions on where to place it.

MSVCRT.DLL file use a lot of programs.
I think you intalled some new programs which changed this file and it became not compatible with icq.
I had this problem too.
I dont know how to fix it.

Formating hdd and intalling programs again allways helps.

make sure to try it with a NEW icq database

i had that problem when i copied my icq database over the 2000b folder.

it was gone after the reinstall mentioned above and with a clean and new database

Run database convert!

If it don't work run it with no history

It will fix the problem

guys, thanks for your suggestions

i ran format disk and started installing all shit again... i put "read only" for msvcrt.dll file hoping that it won't be changed by older copies or wrong version copies in the future....

everything works for some time now

I WAS WRONG!

nothing helped:
i formatted my HD
i installed WinME
i installed ICQ on clean windows, without a lot of apps
but i got the same error after some time again
i installed winXP on other HD
i downloaded the newest ICQ version
i converted ICQ database, deleted all older than 3 months history archives
ICQ worked for 1 hour and then the same song again :(


i have no other ideas...

help me.

unfortunately, this time can't come with any suggestion. It seems that icq is going to make us crazy. In case you want to try an alternative icq, there are the following icq clones:

This seems to be a database corruption error. You should try to remove the database directory (ICQ-DIR/2000b for ICQ 2000b for instance) and reinstall ICQ afterwards.
You won't be able to restore your current database if it is indeed corrupted, so consider saving your contacts somewhere :)

well, thanks god that ICQ works for 2 days after the last crash...
and it's working with the latest 3 months history....

i'm downloading ICQ 2001b now
i hope it will solve problems in the future

i'm still using the 1999B version i think

i killed the banners, and now it always crashes when someone has a birthday :D!

crazy stuff, but yep, icq rocks!!!
