i have a little experience with avs sites and i think you may ask those questions on AVS bord like:
http://www.avsalert.com/
You will ardly notice any use of a site like that, you can easily have 500-1000 avs sites on a server and not use more than 20-30 gigs a day

I wonder whether it is really worth the time to submit sites to avs system, will they really send some decent volumes of traffic or is it a waste of time?

matuloo, avs systems do not send as much traffic as other traffic sources, but they convert much better if you have a good layout.
so much less traffic + much better sales.
cyberage only sends a few hits a day after the first week or so, so i use less than a gig a day from cyberage with 400+ sites. and i make a sale from time to time off the old sites.

basschick : you say that you have over 400 sites listed at cyberage and it only makes a sale from time to time. Does it mean that to make some decent money from avs, you would have to submit plenty of sites to every avs system possible? I am not talking about making money from selling the avs memberships itself.

AVS sites such as Sexkey and Cyberage take up very little bandwidth once they are off the "new sites" list. Once it is off that list, I doubt you will get much traffic or signups.
