Not another Bianca, please! Tom, do not allow to post pics directly or you'll have lotsa troubles due to hotlinking. Instead, you can ask surfers to post URL for complete galleries. Either way, I don't found it like a great idea (at least not for thos of us who suffer with sites like yours)

I suggest you use a CGI or php to spit the images and use htaccess to block no ref on that CGI so only users that come thru your site will be able to hotlink. If you hide the filepath with a CGI it makes it much more simpler and effective to kill leaches.
