I just upgraded my computer to a 1 ghz and thunderbird and im having some problems... When the computer restarts, it used to work perfectly - that is, check the disk drive for a disk and load up windows. Now, all it does it just freeze.. the thinking light stays on, it does nothing, and the monitor is in its inactive form. I have no idea why its doing this.. anyone know why? Im thinking its my video card (ATI Rage 128 16mb) or my monitor.
Please if anyone can help, post below http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

oh ya - if i shut of the main power to the case (from the back) and wait 5 minutes, then it works.
but does anyone know why it wont just restart without bothering me? I have a partition on my C: (12mb c, 8 mb d) with win98 SE installed on both..
perhaps another thing that could be causing this is boot.ini, but i dont know how to fiddle with that

Maybe it is over heating

Find out if it isn't overheating. If that isn't the case u can unplug everything that has to do with drives and let it start. In the starting procedure press "DEL" to enter setup and return to system defaults and try again.
Good Luck

check if there aren't any conflicting items in your control panel/system.
I had much the same problem, I fixed it by installing updated drivers for my SiS 530 chipset, the package also upgraded directx and I finished by reinstalling my monitor drivers.
go to start, run, and type dxdiag go to the show menu and do the tests, that should give you an idea of what's going on.

I need to know more: did you upgrade the motherboard as well?
Did the store guy do this or did you just put it in yourself?
How much do you know about BIOS?

I bought a new case, motherboard and chip and transferred my floppy, HDD, video card, etc etc to my new case.
The store guy put in the chip for me and set the buffers - i did the rest.
The motherboard is a MS-6330 Lite one, and the chip is a 1ghz amd thunderbird.
The heatsink and fan (i think) is meant for 1.3 ghz and over.
Also, I can check in the BIOS to see what temperature its running at - ill do that now and post below.. BTW - i know enough about bios to get around http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

system temperature - 84 F
fan running at 5002 RPM
I think it works now, as i upgraded direvtx video drivers, and downgraded my video card drivers http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif.
gonna restart - hopfully it works
