I got my browser hijacked by lop.com

Goddamnit, since the last couple hours I keep getting that faggy internet portal from lop.com on my screen when I'm browsing :mad:

Even when I browse this board it strikes every couple clicks i make, it seems to have changed the default errorpages and pops up adult related ads from time to time n shit like that

I've also found something running *invisible* on my PC .. I can't see that program running when I do ctrl-alt-del , but when I run "msconfig" I see it's active in the "startup" tab

I wonder what other things it has done with my PC

Check your ...etc/hosts file. (Yes, it exists even on windows ;))
Usually browsers or file share programs will modify the domain that Microsoft uses for 404 domains to their own IP (in your hosts file) to spam the crap out of you. This usually overrides DNS since there is no need to do a lookup. Hope that helps, probably should uninstall the browser, mod, or whatever if it is causing pop-ups randomly. Must be annoying.....

Oh also look in your list of active processes and see if there is not one that looks out of place. If there is, trace it to it's path and see what you can conclude. If it is the program in question simply delete it at it's path.

There's this file called lopsearch.exe in the windows/system/ directory ... i deleted it, but didn't seem to help

Fuck yes, I had this shit on my computer about a month ago. :cussing: After several hours of digging, I found that fucking shit and removed from my system immediately! No problems since. I run Win2K, and if I remember correctly, you should search for an .exe file in one of the folders in the C \ Doc & Set...\ <username> \ Local Data \ ..... Damn, I wish I could remember everything in detail, but I believe this should get you on the right path.

Sounds alot like a virus, there may be other things at work here. I would overwrite your current OS and run a virus program. Or save your important documents and format your HD. That program could be used like a trojan horse and send files from your computer, or any other infinite possibilities. F*ing with your browser might just be icing on the cake. Just a possibility...

lop uses normal activeX auto installer which the surfer has to accepts, exactly like a dialer....

only they pop it on warez sites where you think they deliver the program you were looking for but in fact you get their installer...
