View Full Version : Outlook Express 5 emails deleted Help!!
I was having problems with my browser and so uninstalled IE5.5, and on restarting I find Outlook Express does not have my emails any more. There are some very important emails in there - how do I get them back?? I have a file recovery utility that undeletes deleted files, which files should I look for? Any advise appreciated!
Look for .dbx files http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, super Rich to the rescue.
1st, get a copy of a program called "Final Data" http://www.finaldata.com/
Use this program, and look for the .dbx files in the following directory:
c:\windows\application data\Identities\{some horrible string}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Hopefully, you will find deleted files in that location.... then use the program to get them back.
Incidentally, if you want to know why you should have a copy of evidence eliminator, take a look at the program, and watch it restore files you deleted months and years ago... http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
good luck
Thanks, but I can't find any .dbx files. I'm using something called FastFileUndelete and it is showing me files I have deleted weeks ago but not any dbx files in my entire drive. In the c:\windows\application data\Identities\BlahBlah\Microsoft\Outlook Express directory I found 2 folders.dbt files and a *USICP~1.dbt file. They are too small to contain all my emails - totally 300 KBs. Did windows do a thorough job of deleting the OE5 files? I just need files in a folder called 'Info' I had created in my OE5.
I have EE (after selling a 100 copies I bought one to see what it really does) - how do I use it to restore files?
Well, I dont believe what happened. I had given up all hope, and in deep mourning set about installing back IE5.5. When it finished installing, lo and behold, the Outlook Express that opened up did so with all my old emails and folders! I hadnt really lost my emails, the uninstalling of IE5.5 had just changed the mail folder.
On the downside, my IE5.5. is still very slow in opening new pages - http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006464.html
