If you use windows I would suggest using Winroute. You can download a free demo version at http://www.tinysoftware.com/
Works both as a NAT server and Firewall. I tried several and I find this the best since it also works with ICQ very well on other computers that is located on your LAN. You can't receive files over ICQ though

Im really happy with zonealarm.
Its free, very easy to setup and it stealths all your ports.
Portscanners won't find your computer and even better it even slows the scanner terribly down.

Zone alarm always fucks shit up, plus it slows your connection. I use a physical firewall/router =) It works great!

Just a comment on this though - its amazing how many times you (or certainly i do) get scanned by random people trying to connect to a trojan / port on your computer.
