since i dont have a "name brand" traffic script.. i was wondering how they track the referrers. Clickz uses javascript, but how does UCJ and Traffic Manager.. RB4 and others?

I was wondering if the scripts are using shtml or php on the main page with a {http referrer} line since this would be better than Clickz since some surfers turn off javascript.

Can anyone give some advice how the better scripts are counting the referrers without a {query string} in the return url?

Ok :) time to get back to the thread..

Traffic Manager 3 supports two methods of tracking incomming traffic. One is SSI+javascript (like UCJ and some others) the other is via HTTP headers directly.

The second option requires no javascript. That means surfers that have java disabled get counted correctly as well.
