Hi,

I have two HD's.

Older one:IBM was my old c d and e
That one was complaining and gave some problems. So I bought a new one
new one: Maxtor C D E new ones

Well I cloned the OLd one to my NEW hd. So all data/including partitions must are now on my new HD. I did it with Norton ghost clone disk.

But now when I set my NEW HD into master, old one in slave. My pc starts with drive F!

My bios detect my NEW one as master as well. SO that's okay. How can I see, dude you must start with C in stead of F :)

Thnx
Andre

You can change it in your bios I believe.

this is WAY too general (still) :)

1. which OS do you use?
2. are your cd-drives detected as c: and d: then?

try to select "properties" of your cd-drives and check which letters they use, too..

Better yet why not start from scratch and take off the slave drive, boot, and check the results....

Hi,

Well when I remove the old diskdrive. My pc does start. But when Windows 2000 starts it stops. It says "wisselbestand te groot" that's dutch for something like swap image to big.

And then it won't go any further..

It looks like the clone didn't create partitions but sawdrives or so?

Extra info :)

Windows system management says this

My new HD(20GB) is F,G, H
my old one is (C,D,E)

so that's it starts with F is cool :) BUT

I see, my C is called wisselbestand, that;s ducth for something like swap drive? How is this possible?

And when I install stuff it put it on my c drive ( so my old HD)mmm pretty much a mess huh

it doesnt work when removing the SLAVE drive?
strange, strange..
I guess something went wrong creating the clone partitions..
maybe just format your new hd, then create 3 partitions and copy then clone every partition? or doesnt it work with your program?

Justsexxx make partitions on your new hdd manually. Then try to :

1. make an image of your old hdd and copy it - maybe it will work or
2. install Win on new hdd and then try to clone your system.

Norton clone disk should make a "full image" of your hdd so maybe you have a problem with bios settings.

And try use fdisk and set active partition C of your new hdd .

Thnx for all comments

I think I know what happend. The clone simply fucked it up.

I did make already tried to make a format c: and tried to add my ghost back on my new hd, but It gave a error :(

Well guess I just have to format it again, and install all shit again :(

Also by chance did you try to make this clone from within Windows?

If so, you need to preform this from within DOS

hmm, another option that you could give a try is to reset your bios near the battery of you motherboard there has to be some small plug take it off wait 5 seconds orso and place it maybe your motherboard will pcik it up, another thing can be that your board is just to old for your new hard-drive

Well my MOtherboard is just 4 months old :) it already support my XP 1900 so that's no problem. I just think something went wrong with the clone :(

I did clone my old HD to my new HD with Ghost(I run ghost in Dos mode)

But I think it's now the following. He starts with my masterHD(my new one) that's has letter F

But he still picks his apps from C which is my old HD....

So I;'m fucked and need to fdisk the new one, and install a clean windows :)

(and yes I have now 2 disks and on 2 of them is winodws 2000 installed)

damn in thwat way i should say keep one for your system and other one for music or games whatever and make a backup of your system disk copy it to your second drive to be sure if something goes wrong you always have an backup of your most expensive files
