I had my host set up a database for a CJ script.
They sent me the database name and the password, but not the username. Is there any way for me to find out the username? I have a shell account, but not root.

ask them? ;)

Try Your Ftp Username and if not work try your database name as username...
If not I would email them...If they have good support you should hear back quickly..
I am not sure there is a way to find out otherwise...

I emailed the guy who set it up, but he won't be there until tomorrow. I tried my username, database name, nickname and anything else I could think of. Isn't there a way to telnet in and view all the databases on the server?
