link lists are a decent source of traffic
check this out: http://www.webmastervault.com/link.shtml
I suggest running your own link list. It's simple to set up. Gossammer Threads Links 2.0 is a good one. Put all your reciprocal links there. Trade with as many link lists, toplists, banner exchanges, etc as you can and put them all in there. Do the same for a Top List, Banner Exchange, Pop-Up Exchage, Exit-Exchange, whatever...

No problem... it's always better to cut out the middle man. You're only gonna get a lot of traffic if you're the one running the show.

I tried that today, emailing toplist webmasters, all I got in return was a BIG "fuck off". I'm not impressed to say the least.

What did you do to make it worth their while? Did you tell them that you will give them a good listing? No. Did you tell them they would get some traffic in return? No. Do you already have their link up on your site? I don't know, probably not though. I'm not surprised you got the return you got.

I'm not a bloody mind reader, how the hell am I to know what they want?
I would never put there link up if this is the way they do business, this is a business right?
I asked a simple question and in return I got "fuck off". I don't see that as a professional answer. Do you?

I am not suprised either. Still, that response he got was not right. Some of the big LL and toplist guys are so "above" the rest of us they think its cool to put down the little guy. The professional response should have been:
Yes I would be happy to discuss your proposal, what do you have in mind.
How do they know this guy CANT send 10,000 hits a day? And why wouldnt they want to have more links pointing to their sites? Its how Google lists sites. Its simple arrogance.
Just keep that list, when they come to you looking for a trade you can give back what they gave you.

No idea how toplists grow..
I have tried my luck on it and so far the key is 'have a little button and require your members to use it' besides that I have no idea..
even feeding my toplist 1k a day or so it still didn't get over 150 hits a day after I stopped feeding it traffic..
But I will tell you this, the traffic is far more productive than anything else

Try Cams7.com (http://www.cams7.com) if you are looking for webcam traffic. :)
I never had the problem of sitting down one day and signing up for like 100 of them and just putting their recips where they go...
I joined up for about 100 top lists and put their recips banners on my toplist. My recip on their toplist pointed to their recip on my toplist. So, when I sent them a hit, I would go up on their list, and vice versa... I would always stay #1 on the toplist because the flow of traffic from my site to the toplist mained higher than any outcoming traffic. This pretty much ensured my that most of the visitors to the toplist would visit my site.
You also want to set up a banner exchange and put it on your toplist. Banner exchanges work GREAT! They are by far, the most productive form of advertisement you can have. They only downfall is that they take up lots of space... So I suggest running your own... and what I did was sign up for ALL YOU CAN FIND of other banner exchanges and put their recip code in your banner exchange. That way you only need space for one rotating banner...
This might differ for like popup exchanges and the like... but I've never had complaints about signing up for a link list and putting their recip in my link list. And if they require you to put their 468x60 banner up on your page for a link list? I'd go as far as putting them in my banner exchange, but if they ain't cool then forget them...
