What's happened with Google/Altavista?

I had a shit load of sites listed with Google and Altavista. I'm still getting good SE traffic, however something weird has happened, they seemed to have lost many sites linking to me, it's just happened over the past few hours. One of my sites had over 300 sites linking to it, I went to refresh the google page, and it was 24! Similar shit with Altavista. On the positive site, Ive been been picked up by hotbot ( had zero sites listed with them ). Even persiankitty.com has only 1,200 sites linking to it according to google!

check out link popularity for http://www.link-o-rama.com and http://link-o-rama.com - very different for google, which is probably the best sources of traffic

http://www.linkpopularity.com/ is a good site for checking link popularity also

Maybe you had too many doorway/spam pages (if that's what you do). Otherwise, it could be a temporary thing. Check www1.google.com and www2, www3, these are temporary indexes and during late nights Google plays some crazy ranking games.

Thanks wiredguy. I checked the google www1 ( down ) www2 etc, same result.

Hmm, all my links are back with Altavista. Must have been temporary.

I'm still getting the same amount of google traffic to my doorway pages ( yes I do doorways on some of my sites ). I checked google's website, and it looks as though they are only using dmoz submissions. I submitted a few sites the other day to google, so it must be a major change. Hopefully link: will be up again for some of my sites.

AV reindexed on Thu/Fri. They count all links, google bot is different, and counts only valid domains.
