I completely agree to the second article..
unless this virus found a way (I doubt there is one at all) to insert something like a "break line" to stop the loading process and lets windows execute some code of course (I remember they showed a similar exploit with linux and a vqf + mp3 file back then, a single mp3 was able to take over control of your linux, quite amazing)
well, we'll see.. if there really will be a virus, I'll grab the definitions and scan every pic before uploading. no harm done.

You can modify one line in registry to start some program when some certain extension is pressed... this probably a simular thing since mcaffe said that before jpg could be infected another virus has to be executed....
I heard on http://neworder.box.sk that there was a virus a 98 or 97 that would send your icq password to some email when you opened a jpg file...
anyways we'll wait and see

The first article is completely bullshit.
Rename virus.exe to virus.txt and it will be harmless.
It's all about how the software handles the data types and no picture viewer will never execute anything in a .jpg data type.
Unless you hack the OS anything else than executable files will never harm anything.
