Let's say as and example someone bought sex.com before anyone and i bought sex.net would the guy be able to claim it?
I'm talking about buying .net under pretty generic names, not names like thehun.net thumbzilla.net etc.
Also what would be the policy if i did buy a name like thumbzilla.net?
Thanks
Soded
...as far as I know you have to have a trademarked name to be able to hassle someone for it. Having the .com or a business name does no good. If you have sex.com and someone else has a trademark for sex, they can take your domain from you.

I dont think anyone could trademark the word SEX but sex.com could be a branded name and trademarked but then sex.net would not fall under that trademark. Now with thumbzilla its not the .com thats trademarked so any variation of his name used in adult could be infringing upon his trademark.

I would just stay away from similar domain names . Be creative and come up with your own. In my eyes it's not worth the hassel you could get out of it... Just my 2 cents

Why would you trademark a domain name? Surely no one other is going to use it as his trademark as long as you hold the domain..

Ok another question is the trademark works in each country like i own a .com and another guy buy the .fr .uk i will be able to take the domain or i will not?

No you trademark a name with every country. Certains countries have commun trademark systmes , for example in some cases in canada when you trademark something in canada they could issue the trademark for the US as well. The same applies in the EU , you trademark a name for lets say France and it will be trademarked for all EU countries.
but the rest you will actually have to go to lets say NIGERIA trademark it if you want the trademark to be legally applied there.
