It just dawned on me that very possibly by promoting these products we are screwing ourselves. They delete all cookies - the same cookies that tag these users as recurring, etc.
Am I wrong?
I've spoke to CCBill about the cookie problem and they are suppose to be enabling a hardcoding option... I think this would be a problem if they rely on cookies. Also found out the cookies are only good for 2 days... so if the user bookmarks and comes back a week later to sign up, you don't get credit for it.

Still there is a huge potential that we could lose our hardearned moola to these type of programs. Even some cash loss for no good reason sucks.

Definately...
I think that we shouldn't promote these types of programs if they are gonna cost us money. It seems that not everyone is aware, or just don't care.

The dude said that there is no danger as they track the sale the moment the surfer enters the site - so, as it were, or is, the cookie is placed on their harddrive the moment the surfer enters.

I'm talking about all other sponsors that use cookies - say like live cam users or something that may rely on cookie info.
It just seems to me that even a little money lost is too much - it probably adds up for all of us.

Do you think they would say "hell ya we get you with no lube man its a great way for us to make money" instead?
Even if you make short term money your fucking yourself and others with these programs in the future. Think about why some very big adult program push this stuff so heavy offering cars, boats, planes and trains when it deletes their affiliates cookeis...

I'm not selling any of these history kill products or anything until someone comes up with one that specifically doesn't screw us! Or at the very least there's probably another product we could come up with that prey's on the surfer's fear of getting caught, etc. That's a good selling feature but it screws us! :)

Sponsors should not be using cookies exclusively in my opinion. If they do, your losing about 5% of your surfers anyways, so you shouldn't do business with them. If a surfer does bookmark the site directly, it should have your refcode in it and not a cookie stored. If they don't then create a framed page of the sponsor so if they do bookmark it, they come back via your framed url and you still get the credit.
This solves the cookie problem, gets you an extra 5% sales from lost refcodes and more importantly, let's your market those eraser products.

If I was a sponsor i would love them!

not advertising those products is a good way to get rid of them, but if not everybody will follow that is not good.
People today want to make a quick buck and happy about that, but in the long term they get screwed... too bad but I cannot blame them as with the business we are in you never know what will tomorrow look like :(

I made a comment about this in another thread, cookies are used by trade scripts and sponsors to track our traffic and half of the webmasters out there are trying to scare the surfers in to hating cookies :cussing:
