on one level i think it filters by email address of the sender, and the host from where the email came from.

laters,
Chris

they may also scan the content, and exclude emails that have lots of external links?

porno related words?

Have you tried playing about sending yourself email, to try to eliminate certain cases?

Isn't there also some spam 'law' that you must have the correct 'from' address on outgoing emails? I guess they could filter everything coming from *sexfiles.com etc etc.

Chris,

http://www.spamlaws.com

The current version of H.R. 718 would prohibit false headers in unsolicited bulk commercial e-mail messages, and would require labels on sexually oriented commercial e-mail messages.

Baddog,

one has to assume that the filters setup are to remove spam, regardless of the nature of your emails, you're trying to get around their anti-spam system.

Dunno if your users use it or not, but Hotmail has the same type of filtering in place.

I read a bit about the hotmail stuff (same ideas might apply to yahoo), you might want to get your users to put your-addy@your-domain.com in their 'allowed' list, so the filters just ignore it?

Something i just thought of: a service like hotmail or yahoo could block/delete messages from accounts if they received more than X hundred/thousand of the same/similar emails. This way, no factors you could set would result in bypassing their filters, as they'd just look at the contents and match them up. Perhaps some sort of script that changes your emails contents on the fly would be useful in that case.

That is an interesting law since if you are on a domains MX records for receiving and delivering mail, and you are not part of the domain, you have to 'fake' the address. But this is a normal operation with Sendmail. I guess they probably fully define the term 'fake' in the law though.

Oh and yeah you can use a different reply-to and from address with yahoo and hotmail accounts(I really fucked with one of my buddies with this! made it look like some slut in his class wanted his nuts lol)
