A lot of free hosts will delete your account unless you log onto it ina set amount of time, like once a month.

I had some galleries there myself ... also all gone

I have my TGSW on automatic and noticed a day or 2 ago that after the 9th of july no hits from my galleries on that free host were showing in any of my sponsorstats ... went to check it out and turned out everything was gone.

cleanfreehost is no longer ... yet an other one bites the dust :D

If you want to use freehosts then the best thing to do is host a domain with them so you get to keep all the traffic if things go wrong plus no need edit any web pages and change url's.

I didn't even know I was still sending them traffic until today. :p

None of us violated one of the damn rules ... that free host just decided to quit the free-host biz (I assume as their main site is gone aswell :D)

I used it and don't remember to see something like "random 404", "redirecting" or "deletion of sites" anywhere in those rules. However, it happened. In the long/medium/short time, what will help you is to use your own host, I won't say every free host is a cheater prick, but I still don't know of any free host not being it. Maybe there's an honest free host. Maybe. I just don't know of any one yet.

part of dealing with freehosts is putting up with bullshit like that. instead of having a box on the signup form that says "i accept the terms and conditions" they might as well have a box that says "i agree to let you stick a chainsaw up my ass"

Depends on how you look at it ...

A free host is like a normal host but with tons of restrictions, no contract and an other method of payment ...
Other than asking money for the hosting, they take the top spot on all your pages, get all the 404's and probably take your SE traffic aswell ... because their plan is to make the same/more money with that as if they would just charge money for it.

It's like people who make free scripts and don't ask money for it but take traffic ... traffic is the method of payment here ... the script can turn out to be one of the most expensive.

It's not when there's no real money involved that something is free.

nothing is free unless they don't take something back.
