Hi,
I'll have 300-400 GIG traffic a month. IS this "128 MB
1 x 9 GB – Ultra 3 SCSI HDD
1 x Intel ® Pentium ® III 866 Mhz processor"
enough for a dedicated server to handle that?
Thanks
hehe, maybe if you are serving all text and 0 CGIs, your server will still probably crash :-)
try maybe 50GIG/month throughput

So, it;s not enough. What do you recommend. 512MB SDRAm? or another processor extra?
Thanks
1 GIG of ram probably, if you want to run some CGIs
512 is OK , if you are serving static material.

Yah feel free to ICQ me as well at 69658209 and I will help you out.
I can hook you up with some good hosting as well if you like as low as $1.50/gig.
I have 1 AMD Athlon 850 MHz, 15 Gig 7200rpm IBM IDE drive, 512 MB RAM, I run Linux, burn like 700-800 Gigs a month and the load average is usually bellow 1, in the high load periods it's 2-6... Absolutely no problem.
Of course if you want to run W2K you'll need way better HW :-)) Windoze suxx...
Oh and get a good network card... Intel is the best for servers in my opinion. 3com is good for workstations but while I had it on my server I had too many collisions on the interface...
yea... and I forgot to say I serve mostly PHP pages from the server and I also use SQL database for some things... so figure it out... :-)

Ok, thanks I'll take 512 MB RAM. Also 2 x Intel Pro 10/100 fast ethernet cards. The operating system will be Linux. I will run mostly galleries, and a small TGP. Good server?(BTW I run TGSW too)
Thanks
Yes, that's easily enough.
justsexx yeah, that would be fine. I'm doing similar things on my server, it should be OK

I use 3com with about 200 domains and 10,000 subdomains configured on one card. never had collisions. The only time when you could get
clashes when you use different ip blocks on the same box.

The system is fine for 400 GB as long as you add more ram. You'll want 512 MB or more, and since RAM is cheap now, get a lot of it.
Where are you getting the server?
gse: I don't know... I just told my experience... nevermind
yea, RAM is the main thing which depends on when it comes to webserver... the more RAM, the better...
