I was just wondering if banners and sponsors in general should open in new windows. I know this rule applies for TGP galleries so you don't lose the visitor.

most users will shut a popup window before they even can read anything

Opening in the same window means bigger chance of getting a signup :) So in general you shouldn't pop a new window.

some sponsors will can you for opening their site in a new window.

Some sponsors do not even allow you to open them in a new window. On my TGP I always open my sponsors in a new window. Lets the person browse my site a little longer.

Any sponsor paying per join or recurring shouldn't dictate how you send them traffic, if they are paying per hit or exit, that's different.

I always tell my sponsors you're paying per signup it's my traffic, I'll earn my money any way I want.

Just my 2 shekels.

Generally, I think that depends much on page type.

1st type: TGP, CJ2 mainpages.
Generally it's better to open a sponsor in new window.. Cmon, If the surfer clicked on the banner I highly doubt that he will close that page right away..

2st type: Galleries.
It is adviceable, how ever may not work for you, to open sponsor in the same page. Generraly you may prefer doing that way if having traffic from very clean tgps who open your gallery in the same window. The idea is to make it a bit harder for surfer to return to FREE porn :)

I really can't give any advices on other pages, since I have not many experience in other areas in this biz.. Let's say I know they exist, and tried to build one page :D
