I have been on the web for years, I know some html and I know how to design websites, overall I know the web, I know technology, but I am not a programmer at all. I would like to learn how to do php pretty well, to design some software and stuff for myself and fix common problems.

Since I am new to PHP, what is the best book, and video that someone can recommend to me to buy?

I am looking for an easy step by step book
that I would understand easily.

I know I can just go to Amazon and look, but I am looking for responses from people that have read certain books or can give me advice based on using the books.

The only PHP book I own is the "PHP 4 Bible". Its provided all the info I've needed to know on the topic so far. Though I plan on buying a few more on the topic so I'd like to see some other peoples recommendations myself. What I generally find is its best to have a few books on each topic as where one book lacks another one provides good concise information.

Hi,

I recommend you PHP and MySQL Web Development. I started with this book and some online tutorials, and found the book was a great help. Perfect for begining while still teaching you some advanced stuff. And it shows you a lot about the integration of MySQL in PHP as well, so it's very useful to work on most PHP scripts available throughout the web

Hope that helps...

Dje
