what i would do, and have done actually, is to surf the linklists out there and see who's using what and find the one that will fit the style you hope to accomplish... the most common, however is at http://www.gossamer-threads.com/

Yeah gossamer-threads does works really well, plus you can get some really good mods for it, or write your own. Also, I pretty sure that the look of the list is 100% customizable with gossamer.

You'll find plenty of them at
CGI Resource Index (http://www.cgi-resources.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Link_Indexing_Scripts/Directories_and_Portals/)
PHP Resource Index (http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Link_Management/Directories_and_Portals/)

Wow.. thanks Kodek! That is a lot of choice! And quite some are open source. I like open source. It means you can cut down on the costs and tweak the script to your own needs :)

Thanks :)

PHP Nuke is not a good idea for sexportal. Its too much overused on sites.

I think you need use different scripts for each part.
ie gossamer threads for directory & links
pictureit for pictures etc.

PHP-Nuke sucks ass, but it and some of the other portal systems are PERFECT for adult sites. I've been using a variation to build members areas for some paysite clients. They're easy to install, lots of available features and modules, and a whole lot of fun :)

Yes... use Gossamer Threads Links 2.0, it is awesome spider food and I've had great results with it on every site that I've used it on. If you go with something that is SQL based or dynamic, you're going to lose your index pages in the SEs and they'll combine everything as one listing.

Is it possible to use Gossamer Threads Links 2.0 in more than 1 website with the same license ?

Nope, but the license is cheap. $150 per site. You can't beat that! Once a site gets really popular, I would switch to links SQL. I use it on one site and it's incredible.
