We just have a question, hopefully some of you brilliant webmasters can help us!
Background:
We bought a full service turnkey site from Maxwell, got ripped off:( , and ditched it because we could never get it set up so we could receive payment for anything.
Our question:
Should we try again? Obviously we see a potential for making some money. We are not computer brilliant. Should we try to put together a site ourselves or should we buy one? Funds are now limited after already paying for a site, then after paying for that, paying for a domain name, then a few bucks for this, $25 for that, etc.
I know we sound stupid but we really want to know, Is there really money out there, can we make some? Are any of you making any?
Thanks for your expertise?

Hell no theres no money out there! We just sit here on this board all day and bullshit around. Most of us work at McDonald's & Burger King, and fantasize that someone could actually get paid for looking at those naughty pictures.
Now seriously, if there wasn't money in it, do you think there would be so many people doing it? It takes hard work. Make a site, learn HTML, learn to sell, learn to get traffic, learn learn, and then when you think you've got it down, learn some more. This takes WORK. You can either work like a regular job at it for the rest of your life, or work smart while putting in 16 hour days now, and work 15 minutes a day a few years down the road.

Yeah, getting a good site going definetly requires a lot of work/time/ and but not always $$$. If your commited, and willing to work, you will turn a proffit eventually. Eventually might be a year or two mind you. Depends on what type of site/quality.

i believe you *COULD* make money if you paid someone to make you a site - or better, 2 or 3 - had them load it with the right content, and put together a ccbill webmaster affiliate program. you could then offer webmasters a % to refer other webmasters, and you could get listed on resource sites, and even advertise your program a little - as well as announcing it on boards.
here's the catch - not knowing that much about the industry, most people come up with sites in niches that are done to death, or let people make their sites who either make generic sites or poor ones.
there are many niches with plenty of room for new sites. if you had money to spend, a few thou or so, you could end up making money. but somehow, most people start generic teen or hardcore sites and don't make shit.
go into a fetish or something with strong content and you can make $$$ - imo.

Talk to the man at www.visualecstasy.com he has been contracted by some very big guys in the biz to do work because his stuff converts very well. He knows about niche sites especially gay/asian/tranny type stuff and can build you a site that will do very good with some work on your part to promote the site.
He does not build turnkey but can give you advice where to get content and how to setup everything for a good price. :)

If you look at the people who are making money I believe there is some necessity to having a knowledge of computers and computing. This is the most frustrating thing I find when people are looking to get into the internet industry and have zero clue how their email even works. How can you possibly take advantage of the medium if you don't understand your own computer, how a web page even works, or worse yet, why it doesn't?
If you're going to buy a turnkey site then you need to hire a good technical person to manage the site. There's no way you are going to be able to roll with the changes, fix problems, even figure out what the hell is wrong without some understanding of the technology you're using.

I don't get it, you tried to buy a trunkey site once and got ripped off and now you want to do it again? i think you should spend the next month, learning as much as you can about the business, web design, html, etc. then do it yourself.

I know it is funny to some of you and I am a joke but I was just asking for some advice from what I thought were the PROS.
Thanks to those of you that offered information. I am very grateful. I am not totally ignorant, I know some things, but I would not call myself knowledgable so I said I was computer stupid. After all, I am blonde!
I spent money and I believe that there is some money to be made in this industry, I just didn't want to make another mistake. I realize there are no free rides, I'm not looking for a free ride, just an honest business.
Thanks again,
Blondie
Hi Blondie... stick around this time... ask specific questions... read some threads... use the search tool in the forum... check out some webmaster resources and read some articles... hang out on your computer at least 12 hours a day for about a year and you will have more knowledge than most of us when we didn't know about these cool resources...

several years ago when i started my first paysite, there was no one to tell me what to do and what not to do. that was in the days when a tour cost $2500. actually that is why i got into it, i thought "fuck, $2500, i can probably do that, maybe i should try and build one then maybe advertise to others to build a site". So i went out and learned all i could about html. there were no newbie start up guides to help me. i made money and that was even after paying $4 a gig.
my tips to you are:
1. find a niche you like and will be easy for you to sell. (it doesn't have to be so specific as women in high heels with leather corsets, but just an area you enjoy, because you are going to spend alot of time looking at stuff in that particular segment).
2. be prepared to work long hours and be willing to make changes to your site. that is why you need some html knowledge. so you are not at the mercy of your designers schedule. you will have to play around with the layout to find what works best.
3. network, network, network.
