A shocking development took place today as the ruling members of the Taliban held a press conference threatening the United States if its territory is invaded. Immigration Czar Mohmammed Ali Momaluke stated that the Afghan authorities "would not hesitate for a moment" to cut off the
US supply of convenience store managers.
better get your Slurpies while you can. ;o)

You guys are acting like jerk, no offence.. actually I hope you do get offended. I would surmise that people here would be a bit smarter about this shit since were on an "adult" forum. This is a war going on.. and muslim people who are people like you and me that have nothing to do with this are getting killed in the streets by stupid idiots that have nothing better to do with their lives and you people just keep on bashing them as if you were that much better than all of them... hah.. get a life people and open your eyes US government lies all kinds when Bush stands up and says its time to fight terrorism, I cry of laughter considering that Laden was trained by the CIA and payed to commit terrorist acts against the soviet union when they were communist. I think the mods here should start banning some people with their sleazy ass racist comments. Thats just my 2 cents

D0b3rman, well said, my thoughts exactly. No matter what side your on your being lied to. I used to respect the yanks, but bombing the hell out of a country and then letting the northern allience do the tough initial stuff is pathetic. doesn't matter where you live, the government doesnt give a damn about you.

euphamon,
are you fucking serious? you think the northern alliance would have it any other way? and it is not like we are exactly bombing the hell out of the country, or there would be no country left. precision air strikes, that is what it is all about, and the northern alliance is appreciative of it, and it is a known fact that the northern alliance is better suited to do the face to face battles, as they know the country better than anyone.
another thing, whether or not you respect us, is really of no consequence . . . what exactly would you do? what is your solution? or are you just another of these all talk with nothing to say punks?
go slip another shrimp on the barbie until you can come up with something intelligent to say
and for those that can not figure out that the start of this thread was a fucking joke, well, you have some real problems that is all I can say

bad_dog, ill try to ignore your attempts at insult, prove to me that you can stick to the topic.
Your right about the fact the Northern alliance wouldn't have it any other way, by all accounts they'd be fighting regardless of what's going on. But arming them rather than going in yourself is pathetic.
This situation doesn't require any attacks from above, it is a gainless pursuit bombing a country which has minimal targets; that's logic.
A UK spokesperson has now RULED OUT an all out ground invasion, it will only be made up of special forces. pfft special forces - that's just a cover for the fact that they'll be sending in no one, and who's ever gonna find out, because it's "secret".
So do you honestly believe that the allies, are trying simply to carry out what they're trying to achieve in the best manner tactically, and not in the manner which would be most popular?
If they conducted a ground invasion - the only way to take out individuals, at which point they start losing troops, the public isn't going to be happy, which is why they won't do it, they'd prefer to better arm the northern alliance to do their dirty work - to evenge the loses on sept. 11. They would have loved Bin ladin to be simply handed over, because it'd mean they wouldn't have to make an invasion, and now that they won't simply hand him over they'll be red faced, because they're still ducking out of an invasion.
Ask any historian and they'll probably tell you, the US has never been much good at tactics. There's a general concensus concerning that. Perhaps if they started considering the best ways of doing things as opposed to ways which would be best recieved, they'd have better luck.

euphamon,
first off, you think I am trying to insult you? not even close. your ignorance of facts and my pointing them out to you should not be considered an insult, but rather a suggestion that you try and educate yourself instead of spewing the nonsense you have come up with so far.
your contention that the use of special forces is just another way of saying that no one will be there is a prime example of your ignorance. Now, I will not attempt to support the British special forces, because as far as I know that is the guards at Buckingham Palace, and their primary duty is to brew tea and bake crumpets, however the US Special Forces, aka Seals, Rangers, Green Beret, do kick major ass and while they may not grab headlines, you can be sure that if you are on the receiving end, you are going to know they were there.
while there may be minimal targets in Afghanistan, the ultimate goal will be to insure there are no targets. Your problem is that you have zero understanding of the make up of the fighting forces of the Taliban. They do not have shit as far as troops are concerned, and for the most part their fighting forces are made up of troops provided be the many warlords there.
Warlords are very fickle, they have no true allegiance to anyone. They do not have any cause that they are fighting for except one, and that is their own personal gain. So they change sides quite easily. They will fight for whoever will offer them the most potential gain. They have more to gain by being on the side of the winner. If the Taliban is getting their ass kicked by air strikes that destroy their airfields, training centers, highways, communications, aircraft, trucks, arms depots, the warlords are going to say fuck this shit, we are out of here. Hey, Northern Alliance, lets talk.
You still have not answered my questions however, what exactly would you do? what is your solution?

the British Special forces, known worldwide as the SAS, are one of the best trained, anti-terrorism corps in the world, it was them, in fact, the ones that trained the afghans (under monetary support from the CIA) to fight against the Russians (thus training Bin Laden)
In my opinion, they are the elite corps that are best suited to this ocasion, since they already have field experience in Afghanistan.
The Buckingham palace guards are a different military corp.

Man bad_doh your the one that needs to shut up with your non sense. They all just made you look like a fool especially when you say others don't have their facts straight. The matter is USA is just like warlords. They get involved in any war so they could try and look like the good guys but what you don't see is once the war is over US goes back to the ground zero of their destruction and deposit serious radioactive garbage Eg: Yugoslavia!
And indeed the British always had and still have the best special forces and commandos.

The US spends alot of time fighting on behalf of other nations, half the time b/c the UN asks us too, and the other half the time out of the goodness or our hearts. You should be kissing our asses, that our troops giving their lives for other countries. Most countries don't give a fuck about their own citizens, much less other countries citizens.

Hmmm, you are definitely overestimating the competence of the U.S. Special Operations Forces. Remember, Iran, 1980? How about Panama, 1989? Or Somalia, 1993? Monty Python I'm sure could do a great movie featuring them.

Hehe progod, i really think it would be in the best interest for the USA to stop "helping" other nations. For the americans sake's , for the us army's sakes, and for the sake of the people that dont want US soldiers in their land.
Just my openion of the fact.
By the way, out of curiosity why is there over 20,000 US troops in the middle east? this is before the sept. 11 attacks. Im just curious.

Oh yah let us stay out, lets let them develop nuclear weapons, blast us so we blast them.. there goes half of europe and half of the US as well..
Good plan.. Just one major reason there are 20,000 troops in the middle east. But then again, middle eastern people have shown they wouldn't sacrifice their OWN lives to make a point would they? Its not like they drive suicide planes into buildings or anything. Or drive suicide bombs into places.
Nah they wouldn't use weapons if they had them, that would be suicide.
Oh shit, for a second there I thought I was talking about educated rational people. My mistake.

By the way, out of curiosity why is there over 20,000 US troops in the middle east?
Because it's in their strategic interest to be there. Because that's where 3/4 of the world's oil supply is. Because they have to make up for the ground they lost when the Shah of Iran was overthrown. Because they have easy access to the skies of Iraq, and now Afghanistan. Because those troops will be good backup after the US has troops in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. Because that formation of bases will completely surround Iraq and Iran further isolating them. Because when this is all done it will squeeze Russia out of Central Asia, the same way NATO's actions in Yugoslavia squeezed Russia out of Bulgaria, Romania, etc.
What do you think? That this is about morality? This is geopolitics my friend. It has nothing to do with morality. It is empire building. It is the same thing every empire did throughout history. Do you think the Romans controlled most of the civilized world by having dinner parties? No, they did by being the "too bad" guys. You know what I mean?

Preston, i was really curious what was the reason behind that. I wasn't trying to make a point. I honestly did not know what they are doing there for so long since there are never anything about it in the news. So loose the attitude. hehhehe =P
All i got to say is that, CANADA is open to any americans not feeling safe enough at home .. hehehehe we have plenty of forests for all of us to hide in, incase all hell goes loose :D :D

Just browsing over what all you guys have said, bad_dog ill see how I can answer your questions tomorrow after some sleep in the best way I can, but you all have made good points.
But the most alarming of all was manga's post. All selfish reasons for intervention in the Middle East - this is the way governments work, not from the euphamistic viewpoints the media translates for us. Now, I don't know about you, but I care about those who are on the sore end of thing's.
As I said ill come back for a chat about this tomorrow, maybe we can have some ideas regarding better directions to go rather than argueing.
