Anyone know why my HD slows down to a crawl when accessing the cd? This is preventing me from installing win XP, cause I keep getting errors which say "The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows Xp System Image". Really retarted. Im pretty sure it might be a hardware problem.

Illegal version of xp is probably the problem

Are your HD & CD on different controllers?
You always want to try and avoid putting them on the same cable.

Nah it's not illegal, it's the actual cd.
And Agent, I have tried them on diff controllers as well as on the same with no change in in problem.

As it currently is, I can even copy files from a cd without the system locking up. It seems almost as if It can only process information from the CPU or cd rom at one time.

check jumper setting first
then check IDE modes in bios

now back to win95

I think he means make sure the jumpers on both the HD & CDRW
aren't both set to master, & to check your bios & make sure it's
detecting them properly.

I managed to get it past the dos loader for the install XP, however once it got into the actuall GUI for the install, it started saying it couldn't access d:/I306
and basically I am installing it without 50 files. Windows should be a little buggy :)
