News to all the hosts and "cheap" hosting users

I just heard that Cogent and couple of other providers that are offering these cheap lines, their contracts are coming for renewal and the backbone providers for these guys are "NOT" going to give them the same pricing as they recieved couple of years back due to the fact that there is no longer any race for cheaper pricing among the companies. Meaning the pricing is going to go back up even for cogent bandwidth.


Just thought you guys would want to investigate up on this.

Thats because you get the server included @ rackshack ;)

300$ is the price for bandwidth only... at a colocation facility... rackshack is cheaper ;)

Dont forget in that 300$ you lease server and rackspace too ;)

Yes talk to anyone that has their own lines from providers such as Verio and etc.


I talked to couple of guys about how rediciolusly cheap bandwidth has become and they all told me the same exact thing as I mentioned earlier.

This is good news for us and many other non cogent hosts though as we can finally have an advantage of selling premium for the cost of cogent crap..

To bad for all the cogent hosts that dont have alternate deals made cause no one will want cogent with the bigger price. ;)

Couldn't agree with you more.
OTOH, don't you get your bandwidth from Verio? They also have very low prices and they are also loosing a lot of money, can you be sure that they wont increase your price (or decrease the quality)?

But we do have the option to raise our prices for new clients when cogent shuts its doors but Verio has already cut their costs drastically and has been working to get out of debt. Unlike Cogent who continues to bite the hands that feed them and will go under eventually..
