View Full Version : Fix it or not?

I was submitting galleries this morning and suddenly realized I had an error in my html and was accidently linked one pic twice. I've submitted it to a little less than 1/3 of the TGP's I normally submit to - so the question is - do I fix the problem or forget it? Is it worth the risk of getting banned? sheesh
sigh - I shouldn't do things when I'm half asleep.

If you're not listed yet, it's safe to change the html... It happens to myself quite a few times too. If however you got scripts like Brownie already listing you, i'd stay away from changing it, unless you want to risk yourself getting banned. Go over to the next gallery. However, if it's just a very few sites you submit to, you could email them about the upcoming change you're going to do, they should understand....
Good luck and don't get banned =)

I suppose Brownie is checking mainly file size so if you linked to some pic twice and then replaced one link with other leading to another pic [the same or bigger size] you shouldn't be banned

I'm sure you can change html slightly if there is a mistake made.
Anyway tgp owners are people, not scripts :)
You can always explain yourself even if you get banned somewhere.

I wish it was so! Some owners still react as they were machines, and don't even care or take the time to respond to emails especially concerning minor problems like that. Banned is banned (in first place these are scripts like brownie which ban, not the webmaster), so it's your choice if you want to risk that for a couple little mistakes in your html.

I am with Michael...
Some webmasters will not accept the explanation...
And maybe will ban your domain or email

You guys must got some communication problems ;)
I've been banned for server misconfig and never got any problems with tgp owners.
I agree, there might be some jerks, but most of them will listen to you arguments.
If you think it will get you banned, and don't want to deal with the hassles just leave it. I don't think it will hurt conversions, might piss off a couple freeloading surfers.

If its not hard to fix, why not do it

i probably would have just fixed it and uploaded the pages and continued submitting.

Yep, agree, during the submission process, it's less a problem to quickly fix some code, but after being listed, it's another story. Sure most people are friendly enough to understand the situation, however some higher ranking guys wouldn't care about it, and simply won't reply to emails or react at all. I personally made good [webmasters replying to emails and reckonizing there's/was a problem] and bad experiences [no response or the not so nice fact to see ip/name/email being banned for just a minor thing] for fixing something.
Just wanting to pass by the advice to be carefull when something 'needs' to be fixed.
Greetings, Michael

well yes and no you are changing the html. if your html for the pics are like 01.jpg 02.jpg 02.jpg 04.jpg 05.jpg and you change it to 01.jpg 02.jpg 03.jpg 04.jpg 05.jpg ... will the script pick up that you changed 02.jpg to 03.jpg? the size, in kb, of the page is still the same. you just changed one character. you are not changing the whole page around.
i am not sure how brownie works exactly, but wouldn't it have kicked out the gallery for listing the same image twice?
toxictoy, how did you find out it that your html was wrong? did it get rejected by a script?

I wasn't really paying attention and about 1/3 of the way through my TGP submissions I started noticing that the scripts on some sites were listing "14" pictures after spidering me instead of "15". That's when I looked at the html and realized that a last minute adjustment I had made had accidently listed pic 13 twice in my html - even though there are 15 pics in the directory I uploaded my gallery to. So pic 7.jpg was never listed in the html (I sometimes shuffle them to make them look nicer). Basically the fix would call for me having to remove the duplicate 13.jpg in the html and replace it with the 7.jpg. I was half asleep this morning and didn't pay as much attention as I normally do to my gallery :(
Maybe I should just duplicate the gallery with the fixed html in another directory and submit the rest of them from the point I stopped. argh - I had a couple of big TGP's I sent it to already :(
forget it I doubt you will get banned hehe. it's not really a big big problem :)

I haven't played the tgp game very much ... could you end up with a rejected gallery because the thumb is linked to the wrong jpg? How deep to tpg reviewers go ... would they check something like that?

The problem isn't in the initial rejection of the reviewer- that would be ok. The problem is if I were to change the html after submitting it - most TGP's have a very definite "law" that if you change the HTML in any way after submission that you will be banned plain and simple. They have bots that check it. I already submitted it to about 1/3 of the TGP's I normally submit to.
What I think I'm going to do is leave the mistake for the TGP's I've already submitted to, make a new directory, and then fix and upload the new html in there and continue my submissions using the new directory.

I know custom tgp script checking MD5 checksum [I'm not 100% wtf is this] but I suppose you could get banned there :)
I don't remember if there is an option "check if anything has changed in gallery after submition/listing" in brownie, but if you want to be sure ask Germes

Brownie does have the ability to check if HTML is changed.
