My friend reformatted his harddrive and then started installing everything that used to be on there. One of the programs install failed half way through and now he can't get it off the computer. He tried reinstalling to program but it won't work because the partial install from before is still there. I need to get it off his computer completely before putting it back on. Its still in the add/remove programs and comes up with an error when I try to get rid of it. Anyone know a good way to go about this.

I think his OS is microsoft windows 2000, but it might be windows 98.

You already tried the suggestion I would have given. To reinstall the program on top of the old install fully, it should overwrite all the files.

Then try uninstalling.
If you haven't tried that, try it, I can't see how it would fail.

M$ uninstaller can not think through problematic situations such
as your friends problem nor can it perform complete uninstalls on
more complex programs which induce sharing DLL's and libraries.

You need a program to perform the uninstall properly. There are a
few out there. I would suggest getting McAfee's "Uninstaller".

They have an online clinic that you can probably perform the uninstall.
They give 30 days or something like that to use some of their stuff.

Mcafee Uninstaller also has an excellent registry cleaner that I use at least
4-5 times p/week to keep machines stable.
