Is 400 hits/day good?

I just started my first website yesterday. I've recieved 600 hits total, 400 in one day. I have 2 banners on my site, and I've only gotten 6 unique clicks and no sales...a profit of $.60 Do I need more traffic? Can't live off of $.60 I try to get the most appealing looking banners. What banners/affiliates do you find works best?

I've been posting to all the TGP's that look like they get lots of traffic. But no one seems to click my banners.

although 400 hits is very few, you should do better than 6 clicks. you don't mention if this is actually hits to your site, or hits to your galleries.

heh right now 6 clicks to 400 hits on a banner dont seem that bad really.

I would use text links though and you could get 2-3 times that amount easy. No matter how great a banner appears in your eyes try differ ones each day and see what works best for your site. If you made $.60 your first day i suggest you spend it wisely to celebrate a good thing.

I have heard about people getting thousands of hits daily and makin big fat $0 from what they call a hobby. :p

If you want a good sponsor program i can name a few but one of the best that will pay even if you only make $5 is www.mr-cash.com (http://www.mr-cash.com) which is great for starting out. There are many others but you gotta make $50 or more to get your cash.

If you want more advice to better suite your particular site im sure that will come if you post a URL like basschick asked.

Yes a URL would be great.. many PPL here are more then happy to help newbies out.
Take their advice and learn.

Work on traffic first ..don't worry about making $ while your site is new or growing that will come later.

( having said that one of my affiliates is making $100 a day from 700 SE hits )

Yep, post a url. I assume your site is some sort of free site, because 400 hits is not much for a gallery page. 400 is good for a mini free site. The secret is to build a whole shit of those "little" 400 hits a day sites and shuffle the traffic between them and link exchanges. My best trading buddy is myself, I hardly ever cheat myself ;) http://link-o-rama.com http://tommys-bookmarks.com http://persiankitty.com http://www.smutgremlins.com http://www.quickjerkoff.com http://www.megapornlinks.com http://www.richardsrealm.com are some good link lists. Some of my best money earners are little sites only doing a 100 hits a day - you may get some signups from the link list traffic, but you will probably pick up more quality traffic from SE's once you get listed ( a listing of a site at a big link list should increase your SE relevance ) - that's been my experience anyway. http://adultnetsurprise.com has some good basic info on link lists, SE's etc etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about only earning a few pennies from 400 hits. There was this guy the other day saying here that he did 100,000+ a day and made very little. I've had galleries get 100,000 hits and not made a cent. I have a small trade site that does about 4,000 hits a day - it makes bugger all. I thought it funny when a I caught someone the other day trying to run a hitbot on a small trade ( unless someone else has targeted their outscript - however I am suspicious when someone signs up as Pam and has all their whois details as Ray...), why risk one's reputation for such a small trade and such worthless traffic. On the other hand I have sites that only get 50-1500 hits a day that make most of my money - if your just starting out, you should probably take the free site route, because it is a little more forgiving, and certainly more profitable. Don't get me wrong, the TGP route can be profitable too, however it is a lot harder.

Thank you all for your help! I've been digging through the web for the past few hours finding info, as well as taking all your posts into account. I think that I will go with the freesite method instead of the TGP thing. I may as well still keep my TGP gallery going though too I guess, it can't hurt anything...I'm up to a whopping 10 clicks now. Gonna spend the next few days making a site a bit more upscale looking I think...only so much I can do with the free adult host though cuz their banners make the page look kinda bad no matter what.

don't give up and don't despair

we all had to go through the same thing as you and there are many ways to further your goals

it took me about 6 months to get my first TGP off the ground and that involved a lot of work

when i was testing an idea for a new TGP (Titties And Beer) i had it on a freehost - but when it really started to perform, i moved it to it's own domain

so you can use a free host to help build your TGP

banners can be effective, but most people find that text links convert the best - remember, a lot of the sites that are using banners are also getting a tremendous amount of traffic and they will eventually get the conversions

helping people with reviews is a very good way to get your own galleries in prime listing spots on high traffic sites - and if you're good at reviews and trustworthy, you'll find that your services can also be rewarded with traffic

look at webrings and other collectives

if you have money to spare, buy some traffic to kick things off

don't be afraid to ask questions, read as many BBS's as you can and be patient

I should add, I mainly use my trade sites to seed my free sites - tgp traffic starts to behave like good prospect surfers once they have to navigate front pages, full page adds and content link pages. :) Might be naive, but I'm fucked if I am going to review a whole shit of submissions to galleries every day.

once you have traffic to play with, nothing is better than feeding it to your own galleries, AVS pages, etc

which raises another good point

make as many galleries as you can (100's) and put them on your TGP - if you target your traffic there is no reason why you can't convert from 600 uniques a day

wel leroy, i wanna say you should work hard every day.
you can't say 400 is much, but it's only your first day. i did worse in my first day, just keep reading talking etc from and to other webmasters, and you'll learn the tricks from this biz. and just keep changing your site until you found the good mix, but don't change good things!! ( sounds crazy, but most of us do that, including me ).

leroy, on my galleries i get about 10% click through rate on text links. sometimes more, sometimes a little less. with the right niche and the right galleries, you can easily send 1000 hits a day without too much effort.

free sites are good, too - why not try both?!
