Hi i cant seem to find any goos answers to this question, all the hosts i have talked to have different oppinions, some charge like 3$ pr gb and, only charge you for what you use, but other have much cheaper prises, but measure the usage by 95percintile..??
I know what it means, but i dont know whats cheapest in the end, fx. if i use alot of traffic for 6 days during a month on 95% then i can end up with a very big bill right?
please help me http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

As a rule of thumb the 2 alternatives compare as 3:5, meaning that if you're paying $3 @95th you would likely pay $5 @average and still pay about the same for your hosting. Average is really good if you spike your traffic for more then 36 hours in a billing cycle, but 95th _might_ save you some money if your BW chart is very flat.

6 days of the month on 95th percentile shouldn't be enough to pull your average way up, especially since a good number of your throwaways should be on spike days.
The best way to figure out what you would be doing is to have your host give you a reading both ways and see which is more economical for you http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

You should just go with flat rate unless you need a very large amount of bandwidth.
Say you might need 5mbps at some time but most times you only use 2-3mbps then 95th percentile is good. But if you will only use a capped amount or only have a need for a capped amount then pay per gig is much better and could save you in the long run.
I would only use the 95th percentile if i was going to run a dedicated server and had a pay site with large user base or a free host ect...
If you can get $3 per GB thats definatly a fair price as some are $4-5 and go way up. You basically get what you pay if you go the cheap route you will probably suffer on support and uptime.
I would never use an adult host that offers below $3 unless i tried them out for a month or two with a small shared account to test them out.

Jizar ll, I'll give you this quick example to show how much 95percintile sucks for an adult site.
You use about 1 Mbps for 10 days.
You use 5 Mbps for 2 days (got a traffic spike etc).
You use 1 Mbps for 18 days (rest of the month).
You pay for 5 Mbps...
You use about 1 Mbps for 10 days.(10 GB/day)
You use 5 Mbps for 2 days (got a traffic spike etc). (50 GB/day)
You use 1 Mbps for 18 days (rest of the month). (10 GB/day)
You pay for 380 GB, or 1.2 Mbps average.
Our customers like paying by actual transfer and we bill them by actual transfer.

Thanks for explaining http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Mr. Energy, how much do you charge for the above BW usages?

We can do $1.5 per GB for 200+ GB on dedicated or $2 per GB on 100+ virtual hosting.
Prices are negotiable.
Yep, unless you cap your usage with a apache mod or use thttpd that can throttle definately go for average. On the other hand, "soft" capping + 95th prolly saves the most money... at the cost of slightly reduced speed during spikes. Your call!
