High quality avi or mpg format.

I use both Windows Media and MPG. Some guys like the Mpeg because it's universal, others like the Windows Media because it's a smaller file and nice quality. I'm putting a new site together at the moment with ASF and Quicktime as the high speed formats for PC and Mac, and RealPlayer as the universal low speed streaming format. The ASF and Quicktime streams can also be saved to disk. I agree MPEG is the best format to use, but the price is a much higher file size.

Don't use RealMedia format. What you gain in file size you lose in assy quality video. And for a paysite, that just seems like a dirty trick. :/

If you're looking for a streaming solution, go with Windows Media (ASF). Nice, tight compression and awesome clarity.

I think most people have seen RealPlayer at it's lowest quality in movies cut for dialup. The quality depends on the target audience, and RealPlayer can be just as good as ASF, if you cut it for ISDN/DSL.

ASF - sucks because the quality is really low.

MPEG - they are too big....you are loosing a lot of cash into bndwith thatw ay http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/frown.gif

AVI (DIVX) - They are the better because the quality is really high and the size isn't that big. The visitor will only have to download a code and install it....

Asf can be very high quality, especially if your source is digital.
Mpg files are not as bad as you think, I have about 10 gigs in my member area and with 1,000 members I make money like a mofo.
Divx movies are great, execpt for the need to d/l the plugin. Another codec you may want to look at is mpeg4v2, it has many of the qualitys of divx but does not require the user to install anything special.
