The hyp.'s slope is slightly different in both

Much0S

ok, I'm not sure, but I think this is the explanation.

As we all know square of a triangle is 0.5 * base * hight = 0.5 * 13 * 5 = 0.5 * 65 = 32.5

Note that this is not a nice number.

In the first case the '.5' (in 32.5) is globbered up by a different slope.

In the second case the slope is only a little bit different and that couses the free spot to be 'created'.

I probably can calculate the angles for ya, but I kinda have something better to do at 01.26 am http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

The longest side on the outside triangle isn't a straight line.

On the bottom triangle for instance look at the top right hand corner of the green triangle and you'll see its on an intersection of the grid. While when you look at the same spot on the triangle above it sits a little bit lower. That area made up over the entire triangle equals a square.

I can see the miniscule variation in slope..but is that enough to create and entire square..
not only an entire square but exactly 1 square empty..
not .95 of a sqaure or .5 or anything but exactly one sqaure..
that is fucked up

Ok, the red and aqua triangles have different slopes.

In the first configuration, the hypotinuse (or however you spell it) bends inward.

In the second configuration, the hypotinuse (or however you spell it) bends outward leaving the gap.

Sit further back from your screen.. go on, lean back...

the top line is convex, the bottom concave, only just, but its enough.

Damn cool illusion.

The portions are not exactly the same..
the Red and the Dark Green aren't exactly the same..
they consume a slightly different area...
bah, a puzzle or a trick?

You only need to decrease .5 square (because you have 32.5 remember)

a good point to see the difference is 5 blocks counted from the right.

In the 1st line goes through intersection, in the second it lies above.

You can see the different areas between the 2 triangles when a straight line is drawn between the 2 vertices. Not much difference but when you times it by the full length.

ok so now comes the real hard question.

What is the Radius of the circle going through the to points (upper right point of triangle and lower left point of triangle) of the second picture.

Obviously this circle has a square of 0.5.

So what's the radius?

Rimmer
06-04-2001, 07:06 PM
Its not a circle but rather 2 straight lines that meet at different angles forming the different areas.

Much0S
06-04-2001, 07:25 PM
no, no, it is a bent line (you can see its 'belly' hovering above the line you have drawn).

By letting the circle be a triangle i've calculated that the height of the top of the circle (being in point block 6.5) is 0.076923 cm's.

Radius is tough though http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok , after looking at your answers , i think u just found something to suspect about , but not the answer .
try to think of this :
lets begin with the top first

the entire size of of it is 13x5 = 65/2 = 32.5
now lets calculate each image seperatly .

red - 12
dark green -5
orange - 7
light green -8

all together 32 .

without even comparing to the bottom square .
how come when u caculate the totall its 32.5
and each image seperatly its 32 .
it doesn't have to do anything with slopes now .

Rimmer
06-04-2001, 07:42 PM
I think the only way to be certain is to get down to the pixel level http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Swat
06-04-2001, 07:56 PM
ok that's enough here's the trick ....
we are assuming that the red is 12 , by calculating 3*8 = 24/2 ...
if the main slope of the totall square would be straight line , it wouldn't be 3*8 , but 3.something * 8 , which would give over 12 .
Plus the green wouldn't be a real triangle since its edge wouldn't be a point .
in either case red and dark green are using 13 little squares at the top , and 12 little square at the bottom (if u calculate the same way) . so the difference between them is 1 square which is the white one at the bottom .

anyways it was a good one , must admit .

By the way can i steal more time from your porn designs ? http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
this one is real good , so all the 170's IQ shouldn't have problems with it right ?

1,5,6,7 , play those number with any of the 4 math operations : + , - , / , * .
and get 21 .

u can't use more then 1 time each number .

i have the solution for any of u that will claim that it can be solved .

Hey Swat,
that was an easy one, i'm sure you've got something harder than this for us http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hehe, in life, either you get stuck trying to find a complex solution for a simple problem, or you cut through it and be creative. That is what I call being intelligent, no matter what a test can tell you http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Swat
06-04-2001, 08:23 PM
you made my problem simple because you solved it in a wrong way , i really dont think i should tell you to watch out from a bus to smash you when i ask you to cross the street http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Where did you take take that from?

run
06-05-2001, 04:21 AM
exactly http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

if you want the 2 areas be equal, you need to make sure that (2/5) == (3/8)

so the trick is 1/16 http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

1,5,6,7 would never ever make 21.

Much0S
06-05-2001, 05:23 AM
I'll try to explain why, i hope i succeed.

1 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 19
-> need bigger
5 * 7 - 6 - 1 = 28
-> need smaller
5 * 6 - 7 - 1 = 22
-> need smaller
can't get smaller. (cant get to 21)

why? 21 = 7 * 3 or 3 * 7 no other possibilities. If you want to divide it either must be 1*21 5*21 6*21 or 7*21. All numbers are not get at.

21 is uneven so you would need an even number to divide. That's ofcourse where the 1 is for, but then again you don't have a divide (actually you have; 7-5, but that wouldn't cut it)

ahhhh i cant explain http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well anyways its not possible

tiamath
06-05-2001, 06:04 AM
Actually you don't need - , / and *

1+5+6+7=19
which is equal to 21 in the counting system with base 9

why wont u upside the number 6 , and use 9 ?

and MuchOS , i said there is a solution .

Much0S
