It seems there are a number of possible reasons -

The promise of untold wealth
Free Porn
Something to talk about at dinner parties
Ownership of sites with massive traffic
The promise of even more untold wealth.

For me, it was the traffic, but I think that may be unusual.

The honest answer is that I am have both adult and non-adult web businesses and I am putting my skills from my "day job" (unix sysadmin) to work in hopes of 1) making extra money and 2) someday being able to leave the drudgery behind so that I can sit all day long at my own home computer like a slave rather than someone else's computer.

I ran a site without any sposor ads and some 'public domain' pics I just liked, I had some non-adult crap sites and I decided I liked naked women more than something else. Then came Xpics banners and money. I realized after a few nasty e-mails I should probably pay for content too... :)

Being a web designer/coder for 3 years I have done quite a few no adult websites and to tell the truth -- im sick of making a 3 page website for a client that doesn't even need a website.

So I pured more time into database scripts and found the adult industry needed me more then a gaming forum.

I started back in 1997 with music/mp3 sites and moved to adult sites after the advertising market crash in 2000. It was easy to make money of non-adult sites in the near past, there were some companies paying $3-5 CPM.

At one point, I was unemployed and I already was highly skilled in design and html.. And a friend & fellow webmaster helped me get started after I helped him out with a few movie editing stuff. So, I got in it for the money, but being a webjunkie for years, it was an easy step to make and it's the best fucking job I ever had :D I didn't become an adult webmaster so I can talk about it, most people are way too uptight about that stuff, even here (Holland)... :bounce:

well my situation is kind of like nasko. I started with non-adult sites and was doing very well with the high CPM but then it all went bad so my buddy nasko told me to get into the adult business and so I did and I love it I must say :) at times it can get rouh but what I love most about working on the net is that you are your own boss. dont got some fucker telling you what to do and how to do it. you do your own stuff and make your own money hehehe :bounce: :bounce:
