It is very hard to tell how many call's per k visitors, it depent on the quality of your traffic.

A lot of things work good... most webmasters I know use different types of advertising ranging from pop-ups, blindlinks, moviethumbs, exit pages, text links etc.

This not an advice but you should try and see what type of advertising works best for you :)
