View Full Version : Message board scripts - any suggestions?
I'm thinking of adding a message board to one of my free sites.
I'm considering using Invision Board. Has anyone here used that script? If so, please tell me your experiences with it.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks :)

Go with either vbulletin - http://www.vbulletin.com/
or UBBthreads (formerly wwwthreads) - http://www.infopop.com/products/ubbthreads/
Thanks for the links.
What extra benefit would I get from these paid scripts?
Do they handle more traffic?
I just need something simple for a small niche free site.

If you want something free, try out Yabb Forum (http://www.yabbforum.com/) It's got some great features.
RockerHard - Thanks. I'll check it out.

I saw a test a few days ago on this. www.invisionboards.com was a clear winner...and its free too.
A few of our clients runt it, and it seems to be real gentle on our servers too.

I have installed and played with YaBB and it seems solid. It is not as good as vbulletin, but then vbulletin will cost ya :), and it's only a little better.

have to disagree on that one :)
in fact many hosts will not even allow that script to run at their servers. Generally cgi-based boards are real load-hogs, and Ikonboard is really one of the worst ones ive seen :)
For the users, IKON seems great, but as a webhost, i really dont like it.

Thanks everyone.
I will try Invision Board first and see how it goes.

I in turn will have to disagree with that :D
On a well configured server it doesn't do that much in terms of load.
Specialy when you use load balancing like I do.
And I believe they now also offer a Php version ;)

I messed around with practically every message board. Once I start getting lots of hits and posts and threads all of them failed. Except for http://www.vbulletin.com. It's simply the best user friendly, fast, and realiable board script on the net. It goes for around $180 or something but it's worth it.
