If the trade is of any decent size contact the owner of the site that you stop the trade.

Imagine he set events or minimum force to you and notice 1-2 days later that you just stoped it.

That would be damn close to stealing.
Right?

If I am cleaning my database, and find trades that do not meet my rules, I cap them to 0.
Contact the trade and give it the chance to fix it (if it is 200+/day).

If I have unproductive trades that only suck up my minimum and stay below 200 a day WITH MY MINIMUM, I just delete it.

True... in my eyes IT IS Stealing... I had a 1K trade till i put up a exit console. That site (whitout calling names) seems to closed the trade whitout warning but i still send 1K to that site. Damn bastards..

Okay, i know there are sites who dont want to trade with other sites who using consoles, but dont delete a trade which where always good whitout warning.

I delete trades that are inactive for 48 hours when i have time usually once a week

I used to delete "dead" trades, but now I just select "active" on the trade option display. This way, only trades of 50 hits/day or more are shown, and nobody gets fucked by me deleting them.
Nice part is that sometimes trades come back out of the blue.

As someone who doesn't run any significant traffic sites, I mostly do SE/multiple small free sites, the above comments confirm some of my suspicions about trade sites. Some webmasters who run them have little regard for the representations made on their signup page. If someone's traffic is "unproductive" on your site, you should simply return them what is appropriate according to your written rules. Deleting them is simply stealing traffic. Even if it is just for 1 hit a day.

Recently I turned a small link list, with just 100 SE hits a day, into a list of my galleries running a modified rankem script to manage traffic. In a few days the traffic is now 1300 hits, but up to 40% of the trade sites I signed up with I had to delete because they returned nothing or very little. Only a couple responded to emails or icq's to query what was happening with trade. My overall in/out ratio for the new site is 1:3.1, yet some sites I traded with said my productivity was (much) less than than 100%. When I had a look at their sites, I wasn't surprised - they didn't have any links which loaded in the few seconds a horny surfer would want to click on.

Well Sticks,

e.g.
If I say a minimum tade size of 200 per day is required the site that signsup for a trade is asked to maintain that.

Whenever I see somebody signing up and start sending traffic, I add a minimum of atleast 10 per hour. To fullfill my part of the minimum 200 deal.

If I see that this site cant keep a trade cant send even back my minimum force and only sucking up my force for some time I will delete it.

Otherwise my admin would be loading with a huge amount of crap. Which would not be even worth the bandwith loading the admin.

Well, since I have almost everybody on 10 minimum per hour and wont display dead trades I wouldnt even know that the trade gets traffic with no return.

There is always a reason for trades getting deleted somewhere....
But cutting a working trade is stealing.

And thats exactly my point. It whas a working trade, i send over 1K a day, and that site sends always 500 - 700 back. So it whas not a real small trade. And only for testing a exit console (which i dont use now anymore) it deleted the trade whitout warning, but my script has still send 1K to that site. Thats stealing in my eyes, because i could have send those hits to my other trade partners who are playing honest.

For new trades i have the ratio at 1,5 and 1K forced hits. When a site signed up for a trade, and hes unable to send 1K a day but lets say only 200 or 300 hits a day, i just set their ratio to 1.4 and forced only 200 - 300 hits but i dont delete the trade.

Dan S,
I understand the thing about the minimum trade and what would be involved in administering a whole lot of small trades. I checked one of your sites and you clearly indicate a minimum traffic requirement. If a minimum trade level is stated in the rules, fine. However, when some of my trades disappearred I checked the rule pages again, no mention of minimum trade.
Anyway, setting up my small trade site has been a valuable lesson in finding out what some of the hidden rules are with some sites, and who are professional webmasters to deal with.
