Hosting prices in different countries

I have just been looking at hosting prices for dedicated servers in different countries. Why are servers so much cheaper in America than other countries? I am interested in getting a server in the Netherlands but look at this price list:

Now, I believe 1 Euro is about equal to 1 US dollar (about 64 pence for us Brits). That means these people want about $200 per month for a server with 20 gigs BW per month. WTF??? I get 400 gigs a month with my server at Rackshack and that only costs half as much. Why on earth are servers so much more expensive in Europe and how do they find people who are willing to pay so much?

If anyone knows a decent ISP in the Netherlands that actually charges sensible prices please post here.

You should check out www.adult-host.nl they are a much cheaper but european bandwidth is more expensive no matter where you go.

Were i am in Canada, i have 2 options to run my own server from my house
Option 1 $175.00 CAN GB :eek:
Option 2 $100.00 CAN GB :eek:

So i had to go into the US and get someone to colocate for me...

Lol, well dont consider using australian hosting for adult needs.

#1 It is illegal in Australia to host adult material
#2 Its likely you will be paying over $100 per gig of bandwidth.

the reason why is bandwidth so cheap in the US is that all of them are on Cogent lines. The most worst quality, but also extremely cheap.

Try check www.exmasters.com - for similar prices you can get much better connection, faster than the Cogent crap.

Exactly. I dont know how telstra thinks it can survive in the "online marketplace" with it's crappy price structuring. We need some more competition.

Since when did we start using Cogent at datahosters?

I think you need not speak for all US based hosts who offer affordable prices because thats total BS. Cogent connectivity has nothing to do with our affordable hosting prices.
