I like the one where a guy is trying to install his printer and the computer responds, "Can not recognize printer". So he turns his monitor to face the printer so the computer can recogize it.

After this didn't work, he called technical support to find out why the computer was still unable to recogize the printer.

I am in the PC support biz and I have heard it all.

One of the questions I ask during support sessions is
"What type of computer are you using"

Some of the answers I get..
"A white one"
" An Ibum" (IBM)
" Windows"
And the infamous " Its a PC"

I used to work in the retail PC business. I used to think the following were just PC folkelore, until I actually had the questions directly from the customers. How could anybody actually be this stupid:

"Where's the 'Any' key?"
"I'm having problems - I can't press the buttons quickly enough on the footpedal."
One guy complained that the mouse wasn't working - turns out he was pointing it at the screen like a laser pointer.
"How much memory is 16mb?"
"The cup holder has broken - is it covered under the warranty?"

I swear, they all actually happened. We also used to average one angry customer per month who had driven "all this way, only to find out you don't sell vacuum cleaners/washing machines/TV's" etc. I never uderstood why they were so angry when there was a store selling all this and more next to us.

Mind you, some of the people I worked with were just as bad. At one point during the Xmas silly season our tech department was completely swamped, so they were told only to give phone support if the customer had he/her reciept number (we told the customer we needed this so we could check on exactly which PC they had. This was of course a complete lie). One of the tech guys took this to extremes - wheneven a customer phoned, he would just say "Hello, reciept?" and repeat this until the customer figured out what he was on about or just hung up.

This was the same tech guy who was fired two weeks later when he took a hacksaw to a customers PC so he could get a new CD ROM drive to fit...

Another infamous call I had about 7 years ago when i worked for Sprint Internet passport.
A women called in stating she purchased a new mouse and installed it and now her PC was not working anymore.

After troubleshooting her issue I learned that when she installed the Mouse. She actually had placed the Mouse "Inside the PC". She stated the directions told to do it.

i remember calling the phone company one can asked why my connection was done. the girl goes 'the internet is down'. so i tell her that i can connect to sprint with my modem. there's a long pause, then she says 'well its down for us'.

dos prompt was 10x more helpful then she was.
